can greens last 15 test innings

1x 50 and an average of 21

His test record in Australia
26 innings and an average of 29 with a high score of 89…

You can come up with whatever metric you want but his record both recently and in total in Australia is borderline horrific

Green’s 184 runs in West Indies gets talked up as Bradman-esque and Webster’s 150 gets talked about like it’s Glenn McGrath

Webster was only a fill in for injury. Wouldn’t have played if Cam was fit. Green is first choice that simple. You want to get rid of the first choice you had to smash the door down and Webster hasn’t been in great form himself this year. Make any excuse you want with the shield matches for Tasmania and the Aus A others scored runs with McSweeney showing the way he’s the one smashing the door down and is ultra close
A 'fill in' who took his opportunities and never should've been dropped.

Genuine question but is Weatherald's place under threat if he has two more low scores in Melbourne?

Inglis might not come back into the team again but Carey being good enough to bat 6 as opposed to 7 (and the decision to bat Inglis two Tests at 7 and not 6) opens up lots of different configurations for the team. And therefore, Khawaja can potentially move back up to open with Head for Sydney, and then you don't necessarily have to pick a specialist bat to bat at 7 - you can pick any version of an all-rounder there, whether it's Green, Connolly or whatever, because the expectations of being a good bat at 7 are obviously lower than in the top 6, and the importance of the skillset other than batting is important at 7.
Don't know if he has it.
But given he's performed at shield level, he was picked, series is done, made a 70 and hasn't been shocking deserves the end of the series. Than assess on the totality of it if he's the right man going foward

it’s been 20 years since freddie flintoff demolished australia and we’re still seeking an all rounder that could impact the game when it mattered most.

i’m personally very skeptical of cam green solely because he’s not making runs (despite batting in the top order) and hasn’t been taking wickets (2 across three tests) and would think his position, despite being a wunderkind 8: on the line. realistically he’s probably in the clique so he won’t be dropped, but webster would be able to play a good role on a pitch that’ll suit him

crickets professionalism (especially from the big 4) has come on from leaps and bounds but christ this pathetic compared to most pro sides. An AFL team would be be mauled by the media and players copping fines/suspensions if they had big ones leading up to games.
afl players regularly go away during their bye weeks.

AFL certainly is very strict on players and cricket doesn't compare in that respect. For a start, nobody is going to frown at a player having a beer mid-match after spending a day and a half in the hot sun. However, you may be amazed if you knew what players in other professional codes do. For example, NFL and NBA players in America, it's pretty much left up to the individual as to how they prepare.

True but even then.
I get its a once in a lifetime opportunity and as Stokes said you are stupid not to enjoy the country.
But 6 days of boozing (if true) and only 3 showing up for a morning run is taking the piss.
Why I don't really believe it. They would've done some fitness work at least? Surely?

Was mediocre against the Windies that’s more than fair. The India series was a year ago he was decent but it’s a year ago. He hasn’t smashed the door down since

So then 4 month’s worth of rain for the test match then?

Sounds about normal.
Probably.

It was a wet winter but it’s been a really hot spring and summer (so far).

When the rain looks like it’s on its way, it kind of disappears and then shits on the Gong and Newcastle as per normal.

Parks and gardens in Sydney are unusually dry at the moment.

Scored a few 60s and chipped in with wickets throughout. Sounds exactly what we'd be wanting from an allrounder to me.

You're very keen on doors being smashed down.

On form (and that form is worse than Ollie Pope) does Green deserve his spot?

Yet that highest score is still better than the alternative. Yes he'd like more runs, chopping and changing is not the answer. Give him this series and the next, and then if he's still in mediocre batting form make the change. There were good signs in Brisbane despite the poor shot to get out.

How about Webster actually finds form in red ball, now that's not all his fault there I agree and he should have been playing shield when he was 12th man, but selectors just don't chance top 6 bats very often for a good reason.
He was in good form for 24 months plus played mostly well in the test team, the problem is you are using a 2 game sample size. He gets that short of a leash but you want to give a guy who has done very little in his test career a longer rope then even Mitch Marsh ever got.

He has been given PLENTT of opportunities, it’s not time for him to go back and earn another chance.

And it’s been the no series since Green was particularly decent.

Starcy has really had a "step up when needed" vibe that Cummins normally takes on. Like, he didn't do shit in that first innings, then Lyon is injured and Cumdawg is looking injured again, and suddenly he reappears in the second.

It may not be Mitch Johnson 2014, but he's stepped up when 2-3/4 of the cartel are injured, and then averages 50 with the bat. It's a career defining series and I'm glad Alyssa is on the comms to tell everyone he wants 5-0 **** off.

Borderline but he’s the incumbent and it’s always harder to get out than in. Not as if the alternative is in form so yes I’d still pick Green
