Why do you think we paid 600K a year to the SANFL for so long

We paid it before we'd played a game in the league. It's got nothing to do with subsidising loss making crowds. Just use your brain for a second. It's an extra game that they get to host, the smallest crowd number on the table was about 980. If you're getting 980 to your venue and you're not making money out of that, then you're an idiot and have no business hosting events. They may not make as much money on our games, but they're making money, they are not making losses.

I know that everyone's different, but I'd love to go and watch our SANFL team at our new headquarters. I haven't been to watch them at all, not wanting to travel around to see them play at opposition ovals.

I'm not keen on going to Adelaide Oval to see them play before a main game, as I don't have season tickets these days. Would much prefer to drive to Thebby and support the Club there.

What I found interesting with crowds is that originally Woodville-West Torrens used the 2nd Crows game as a family day, and the crowds were huge by comparison. Then they ceased, became hostile to afl in sanfl, started viewing it as an opportunity to play on Adelaide Oval, and ceased with the double up at homes, despite them being quite lucartive

Black = Did not play
Red = Played at Adelaide Oval
Orange = Crowd unknown

So did they have their family day as the 1st game in 2016? Or was it just what bucked the trend?
Most clubs would kill for crowds like that.

Woodville marketed their games amazingly, and it got the casual fans through the doors because of the crows.
Just because other teams were lazy and didn't try, doesn't mean it's our fault.

What teams should be doing is what WOodville did. Appeal to the casual fan. It ****ing worked.

The other way is do what North/Norwood (and I think West/South/Centrals have too vs other teams) and take games to country zones.

Regardless of the higher end profits that can be made, reality is that even if only 950 people turn up, you’re making a profit, unless you’re totally incompetent.

They'd be using rubbery logic I reckon

Using the total costs to run the club on an annual basis

Take out what's covered by grant money received, sponsorship

Then divide by 10 home games. We need to make x per home game to break even

Of course they are, you and I would do the exact same thing if we were negotiating with a cash cow like the AFC.

Those "family day" figures need a big *. Yes, good on the club for getting people through the gates and trying something, but the truth of it was the vast majority left before the league game even started and were there because they needed to mind their kid and as soon as those commitments were done, they were out of there.

I hope Thebarton Oval is used as the Crows home ground for SANFL games, but fear what it might mean for West Adelaide and the Eagles long term. Four clubs in the western suburbs was always too crowded.

Sounds fair to play SANFL home games at Thebarton once it's ready. I'm not sure if we still pay the league each season since Covid happened? In all fairness if we have to pay to play and also can't play at home, Port should also be under the same deal.

We'll be play all our home game at Thebby/Ade Oval. We'll also do the 1 country game per year as well.

I think there's zero chance of that until 2029 at the earliest.

We signed a 15 year agreement which goes through to the end of 2028, I imagine that hell would have to freeze over before the SANFL clubs will agree to lose the extra home game they get a season while that agreement is still in place.

From 2029 my expectation for both the CEO and Chairman of the club is to negotiate a deal with the SANFL that is identical to Port Adelaide moving forward, if we're paying even a cent more than they are then it's a massive failure.

Are the SANFL clubs making money from those games given how poorly they are attended by Crows supporters?

Are we in the same negotiating position as Port though?
