For me, the biggest factors were:This 100%.. Without being completely deluded I seen 2025 as a big blip that was derailed with the loss against Richmond and knee injury to Jagga which just sucked the life out of the club and we never recovered..
Besides George no player had a 'good' or career best season. Williams output increased, however besides those 2 there is not one other player who you would say had a better 2025 than in 2024 or 2023.
We lost games to Richmond, Dogs & North which should not have happened. Most importantly i dont see any of the teams who finished below us improving so its hard to see where we go backwards... On the flip side we do not need a lot to go right for us to be much better than we were this year. We lost Charlie who avg 1.78 goals a game and kicked more than 3 goals once, he was a liability in the back half of the year. TDK will be a loss but hopefully we can negate that impact with Pitto & Reidy. JSOS played 10 games. In 2026 we add into our best 23, Newman, Jagga, Hayward, Florent & Ainsworth.. players like Chesser and Harry Dean will provide increased depth and selection pressure.
I went into 2025 thinking we could win the flag, i no longer feel our list profile is capable of doing this however my expectation is that we are at least challenging for a spot in the 8 and would be extremely disappointed if we went further backwards.
Top 6
Any team from 7th - 10th will have to win 5 games in a row to win a flag…
No break or weekend off, from the middle rounds bye of the season…
Great work AFL, keep on keeping on…

We will say this until a team wins it from one of those spots. Fans once thought it was impossible to win a flag from 7thTop 6

You probably can’t fully declare this as 100% impossible to predict ever, but imo it’s as close to it you could get…We will say this until a team wins it from one of those spots. Fans once thought it was impossible to win a flag from 7th
no midfield a bigger issue with Crippa and Walsh largely wounded, Cerra moving like a snail, no Smith, Acres had a shocker... - George the only one who held up his side of the bargain frankly.Biggest issue for our downfall in 2025 was no forwards. Curnow injured and checked out, McKay mostly out, Kemp injured, Cottrell injured, E Hollands out, Williams in and out and the rest not that good.
Club focused heavily on Charlie’s injured body and Charlie was allowed to walk. Sam has been very injury prone so this may become a factor…Keep in mind we just freed up a lot of cap for the coming years, we should be in a position to be matching

No doubt the club believe Sam is a high quality leader and on his day is elite, so this could be an interesting watch.
Can tell you, Geelong are very very keen from what I know down Geelong way
We are (and arguably need to be) more like Collingwood in 2021, if anything, with Walker as our Daicos. We also get the chance to add more talent than just CW.I think an argument could be made for us to have a season a lot like Collingwood in 2022:
- we’ve undertaken a culture reset and jettisoned players (Collingwood lost Stephenson and Treloar in 2020. Chris Mayne retired in 2021)
- expectations around us are low from media and supporters (afl.com writers in 2022 preseason predicted Collingwood to finish 14-16)
- our core of match winners remains (Sidebottom and Pendlebury maintained the Collingwood reins)
- we’ve added players in areas of need (Lipinski and Nick Daicos were pickups for Collingwood)
- we have a new coaching setup (Harvey and Sanderson left, while McRae, Jetta, and Selwood arrived)
I am sure arguments can be made on why we are different to them. Obviously they had McRae as coach and we have Voss.
But just maybe we can embark on a similar run. I reckon they were a couple of minutes from winning the flag if they knocked off Geelong in that first final. So fingers crossed!

Walsh is a restricted free-agent is he not?
So we'd have the option to match an offer and then potentially trade ?
But what if the offer is TDK-like and we can't possibly match or don't want to match - doesn't he walk ?
Seems about right $3.50 for the 10The bookies have us 13th and $3.50 to make the top 10 and $41.00 to win the flag. I think overs for the top 10 and unders for the flag.
Even though we are having a reset, I think we are underrated for next season. The competition is closer than it has been historically, if you can steal a few unexpected wins and be solid at home you can be in the mix.
I expect we will be in the finals mix, but not close to the top 4.
Pies.Seems about right $3.50 for the 10
You’d expect dogs and Sydney pushing for those extra 2 spots from this years top 8. I don’t know who drops out last years top 8.
To make top 10 we need to pick up 3 wins.. We have a tougher draw in 26 than we had this year but I would have us about even money to make top 10. I don’t see any club from underneath us jumping up and Collingwood and probably Geelong could slide back. The Bookies haven't the slightest idea at this stage how a side with Hayward, Florent, Chesser, Ainsworth and Jagga will gel. Neither do I to be honest. Hope springs eternal.
If we start off the year well, and everything points to us playing finals, Walsh is going to stay. TDK wanted to stay, but it's hard to say no to life-changing money.Walsh isnt TDK. If he leaves I think itll be for success more so then cash. He'll get multiple generous offers. Reckon he picks the club he wants to play for from those.
Our list is looking the most balanced it has in a long while, both in roles but also in spread of youth across all lines. Our offseason moves have allowed for opening up our midfield and diversifying our skillsets in midfield and up front.
We are lacking a little depth at Key Back with O'Farrell's injury, and maybe also a pure mid rotation short (Walker coming in next year).
Breakdown of what I think the roles and rotations will be with a 23 player squad:
Rotation 1 (1 Ruck, 2 Key Fwd, 1 Big Mid & 1 Bench)
Ruck: L Reidy - M Pittonet (70% ruck, 30% bench)
Key Fwd/Ruck: H McKay - H O'Keeffe (30% ruck, 55% key fwd, 15% bench)
Key Fwd: B Kemp - A Moir (85% key fwd, 15% bench)
Key Fwd/Big Mid: P Cripps - R Monahan (60% key fwd, 25% midfield, 15% bench)
Big Mid: G Hewett - B Camporeale (75% midfield, 25% bench)
Rotation 2 (2 Small Fwd, 1 Zippy Mid & 1 Bench)
Small Fwd: F Evans - T Byrne (75% small fwd, 25% bench)
Small Fwd: Z Williams - J Motlop (75% small fwd, 25% bench)
Small Fwd/Zippy Mid: B Ainsworth - L Fogarty (50% small fwd, 25% midfield, 25% bench)
Zippy Mid: J Smith (75% midfield, 25% bench)
Rotation 3 (2 Half Fwd, 1 Burst Mid & 1 Bench)
Half Fwd: W Hayward - J Ison (75% half fwd, 25% bench)
Half Fwd: E Hollands - F Young (75% half fwd, 25% bench)
Burst Mid/Half Fwd: C Lord (50% half fwd, 25% midfield, 25% bench)
Burst Mid: S Walsh - A Cerra (75% midfield, 25% bench)
Rotation 4 (2 Wing, 2 Small Def & 1 Bench)
Wing: C Chesser - B Acres (85% wing, 15% bench)
Wing: L Camporeale - M Cottrell (85% wing, 15% bench)
Wing/Small Def: O Hollands - J Boyd (30% wing, 50% small def, 20% bench)
Small Def: A Saad - B Wilson (75% small def, 25% bench)
Small Def: O Florent - H Charleson (75% small def, 25% bench)
Rotation 5 (2 Key Def, 2 Med Def & 1 Bench)
Med Def: L Cowan - N Newman (75% med def, 25% bench)
Med Def: M McGovern - M Carroll (75% med def, 25% bench)
Key/Med Def: N Haynes - H Dean (30% key def, 50% med def, 20% bench)
Key Def: J Weitering - M Duffy (90% key def, 10% bench)
Key Def: L Young - H O'Farrell (80% key def, 20% bench)
Hopefully age can finally catch up with then and the free fall down the bottomPies.
We dont need to spend huge $ or draft capital to fill the KPF void, a Joel Armatey or Buku Khamis would fill this void whilst still allowing us to target top end talent like Zac Butters.Agree with most, except for Moir, McGovern, Williams and Cottrell.
IMO; Moir is more a half forward than a KP forward. Same for Williams - more a half forward/ mid rotation.
McGovern should never play back - ever again ($#1ts himself) and should only be classified as a 3rd forward.
Cottrell isn’t a wingman. Half forward only.
I think we lack another KP forward, as development at the very least. Also lack another pure outside mid developing.
M2C.
Ps. Merry XMas all.
