Axed Hawthorn defender Seamus Mitchell has found a new home, joining SANFL side South Adelaide Panthers for the 2026 season.

Poor bugger.

They've not made a grand final since 1979 and not won one since 1964.

Both Crawshay and Wittman played there and Don Scott (in)famously coached seven games for them in 1985 before getting the flick.

It looked that way a few years ago but then he seemingly stagnated for whatever reason and now here we are. Clearly close to being that but not quite, given a weak draft and shallow DFA pool I thought so too. The fact he didn’t get picked up under those circumstances would indicate he’s not good enough as things stand. Good luck Seamus and thanks for your service.

So good to hear that. He was a gun. And we didn't treat him well at the end.

The whole little blurb they write up for him is a bit misleading for sure but...good on the lad! He could fair dinkum become a great punter cause we all know he can roost it from 65 easily. The pre season game against the cats at half time he was having pot shots from outside 50, torping it and flushing them with ease, that's what made me such a fan of him!

And now has the chance to play for the mighty fighting Irish! I'll bloody be watching closely!
