I can't recall NZ having a Boxing Day test, they used to have an ODI game but they just had a Super Smash game on today.

South Africa used to have Boxing Day tests as well as New Year's tests but it is all about their SA T20 competition there now.

SA used to cry about us never going over there for boxing day and now they don't even bother playing tests.

Bizarre with South Africa

Just won the World Test Championship and then have no home Tests for their summer

No idea why. SA20 starts straightaway but apparently they’ve only moved it because there was a gap in the schedule

SA have their own version of Boxing Day test at home usually unless they have changed that recently. I would love to play 5 tests home and away against them

dont worry i let him know when he was coming off the ground after his dismissal

Did the big security guard who is in team merch for some reason physically assault you?

They have no Test cricket this season. Next home Tests are in October

I'm 50/50 on the curator for this one, I like that the pitch has life in it and between two normal teams I think this wicket would be great. But these aren't normal teams. Some have got good bowls but a lot have got themselves out.
As an amateur curator, I start mine at 10mm but would never contemplate playing on it, 7-8mm would be the highest I would leave it and certainly not at this time of the year.

The pitch hasn’t got too many out but it hasn’t made batting easy.

bedford would have way more experience than me but it sounded like a big risk particularly when there wasn’t a lot of Sun around late in the prep.

There has been a number of them.

It used to be a great day, starting off with the NZ Test, then the Melbourne Test and (as has been mentioned) finishing off with the South African Test. About 16-17 hours or so of pretty much continuous Test cricket.

He’s complete rubbish and we thought Michael Carberry aka the Carbattery was bad

Bring back Rory Burns

That’s a change fairly sure they used to play at Newlands on Boxing Day

Yeah they usually do

I’m not sure why they have no Tests this summer

If the SA20 is a big success in this time slot they would definitely consider keeping it and I’m not sure when they would play their Tets

I have to say, this forum amuses me at times. If you get a wicket where bowlers aren't getting any sideways movement, people start carrying on about it being a road and boring. The moment you get one where bowlers are able to extract some sideways movement and ordinary batting techniques can't deal with it, we carry on about the pitch being dangerous :)

The thing is, I think the pitch has been fine. About the only criticism I would level at it is that there has been the occasional bit of variable bounce.

This supposed excessive seam movement to me has been non-existent. Sure, there has been a bit of sideways movement but no more than I would expect on a Test pitch, particularly on day 1.

Yeah maybe. I think we’ll bat a lot smarter and anything above a 250 lead they’ll shit the bed chasing. The unknown makes me more nervous than a 15yo at a Justin Beiber concert though. Bring it on
My original post said Aus winning before lunch. I meant to say lunch on DAY 3.

I think 250 would be almost impossible for England to chase. So if we can somehow get to 210 then it's 4-0.

NZ had Boxing Day Tests for years. Used to be the greatest day of Test cricket viewing, first session from NZ, into Boxing Day at Melbourne followed by SA from 7:30

From memory NZ did have Boxing Day Tests, but maybe 20-25 years ago. I think at the Basin Reserve.

(edit after looking it up )
They don't always have boxing day internationals any more, and since 2003 only three have been tests. Between 1999 and 2003 they were Tests at basin Reserve except 2002 which was a one day game at Eden Park.

Of all the brain dead ways to get out, that is one of the most brain dead methods. That is shit you see in under 10s cricket, not test match cricket.

Reminds me of an incident years ago when as an 18 year old I played for Subiaco Floreat 3rd division and we played Curtin Uni at their home ground when the firsts (including Kim Hughes) were also playing them at the same venue. We were playing on one oval and Kim's side were playing on the other. When their game finished early Kim and the boys watched our game until the end. I got a 50 but shortly afterwards got run out, stranded halfway down the pitch, in embarrassing fashion. In the bar afterwards Kim Hughes approached me and complimented me on my innings but then added "Pity about the moonwalk at the end". That was my most memorable moment of the season apart from at the end of the season when Kim danced on the club pool table celebrating them winning the premiership.
