I was there the day he played at one end of the ground for an entire match (full back/fullforward) and kicked goals.

He singlehandedly dragged us in to the 1976 grand final in the prelim v Carlton (North by 1 point, Sutton kicked 5 of North's 10 goals).

Not to mention that he kick started our final quarter comeback in the '77 GF with a terrific mark and goal.

I don't think Phil Baker gets the credit he deserves, there aren't too many in the history of the game that have played so well in multiple GF's like he did in '77 and '78.

Kerry Good is another one, anyone who can kick double figures in a game can play, not to mention what he did in the '80 Night GF.

Steve McCann was maligned at times but played some terrific football over the course of more than 200 games.

Don't know wether anyone has mentioned him yet, David King.
Did quote Denis this a.m. on the wireless;
" better sometimes to appear like an idiot instead of opening your mouth and confirming the fact "😂

But could play. Can't remember too many games where l came away thinking, " geez, Kingy was poor "

Agree - very consistent player. Rarely played a shocker.

Even kicked a bag when we got flogged off the Scum in 2000 finals.

A very good assessment. Grima a tad overrated for mine, but that's it.
Fair enough!, but I loved Grima. I thought him the equal of Scott Thompson for a long while, he just couldnt hold his body together. I wish he played 100 games for us, but as he said in his retirement speech, he didnt think he would play 1 game!!

Even then, we were getting rubbish free kicks paid against us.

Shannon Watt.......150 games......no brownlow votes.......best clubman award winner...........the other is Brady Rawlings...won what 3 Syd Barkers.....

Brett Allison 7 goals vs Geelong 1996 qualifying final. Since I mentioned North vs Geelong Carey's 7 out of 11 in a shock win the next year the qualifying final again sublime. 7th vs 2nd you guys produced the upset.

Other than Boomer, I don't think we've had a better small forward than Brett Allison in the last 30 years.

C: Armstrong, Ebert, Holt
HF: Furey, Jonas, McCarthy
F: Love, Rocca, Sutton

R: Hale, German, Romero

Int: Greenwood, Spargo, Pratt, Spencer

Emg: Sinclair, Clarkson, Jones
John Holt was one player that always amazed me that he never became the really consistent player he should have been. At his best he was brilliant on his left foot and I loved watching him. Loved this final he played in the 85 elimination final against Carlton, one of my favourite North games. Also Darren Steele was under rated and played some good games when we were rebuilding in the 80s and played well in this final. I thought the 2 years (especially the first year) that Bruce Abernethy played for us was really good. And John McCarthy I enjoyed watching.

Holt was a bit injury prone but had a great left foot
Steele was an honest trier but didn’t really have any outstanding skills other than courage and could run.
McCarthy probably wasted his talent - was nearly up with Carey when he was on

Personally, I think Brett was a better crumbing forward than LT, but that's not diminishing Lindsay's ability
Fruity did it at speed - crumbed it and he was into an open goal.
Think flash Campbell and turtle Harding are the only ones since him that have shown that ability ( outside of boomer )

Very few players could hit front and centre at speed of a pack like Fruity.

Wasn't just for the crumbs either. He could do it to make himself an option and did it up the ground as well.

I've watched a few 90s games in the last month or so. Obvious the influence Crock has on the W side cos they are almost exactly the same. Both sides hit the contest with intensity and there is always someone running in support and someone else running past outside in space.

He should have coached the men's side thru the 2010s.

I think Lindsay Thomas has already become one. One of the league's best small forwards when he was on, it's a shame his career was marred by constant focus on him playing for free kicks.

A pioneer considering that it’s part of small forward craft these days… as much as I despise it. LT was nowhere near as bad as the current crop, but none of them received the vitriol that LT copped
