lol, nah just a half decent Jewish Dr, like the other 2 Premiership Dr's from our latest spell at the top - the legend (H) - who sits on our board was actually a Carlton fan who my dad helped get the job initially.

I said he was a clever campaigner, not smart obviously... being a die-hard Labor man and all, and failing to understand the realities of his idiocy (as proven a few weeks ago), I might add.

In 2025?

You not mixing anymore are you? lol.

McKercher
LDU
Xerri
Sheezel
Curtis
FOS
Hardeman
Larkey
Dyldo lol
Daylight

Wardlaw
Daylight

Daniels
turncoat
Augustus

Daylight
BGZ (still projects to be a much better player than the Old Skipper)

lol, carrying his new 'Herringbone' ensemble!!
I can understand you're pissed off with him after what happened but you're wrong in your assessment of him.

Of the players you listed above him on your list only Curtis, Larkey and maybe Wardlaw were better and they were all inconsistent as well. I wouldn't say they were definitely better I dunno if I'd even say they had better years. He also had his best season stats wise apart from the two Syd Barker years and kicked more goals than any year except one where he kicked the same amount playing exclusively as a forward.

He’s not vegan

His gf is

There’s a difference

Sidenote Luke Parker is vegan
Luke Parker didn't want to run off and play for someone else despite being paid 1.75x his worth.
Being called a coward remains a slur and having seen him play at North it's a very surprising take to me.

Just as surprising that it's coming from a medical practitioner - mindful of their oath of course.

A real head scratcher on a few fronts.
Apparently something to do with the 1983 finals... there was a refusal involved.

You better follow this all up pretty bloody well here Chippy

AFL Hall of Famer, legend at two AFL Clubs, B&F winner at North etc etc

I saw him play many games during this era and couldn’t fault him.

To top it off he nearly lost his life in the Lara bushfires and had his vocal cords ruined in a whack to the throat

So if you’re laying it out there, back it up, because tbh I’m a bit pissed off reading this tonight

His disgraceful attitude to being North Skipper and being significantly overpaid aside....

I think you're taking these Syds too far and placing importance on them they frankly don't warrant.

They don't really matter cos we were so toilet and so young, just IMO/feelings.

The game where he had ~11x turnovers from 14 posi's was enough, the "wanting out" business was just a bridge too far for me. I don't call ex-Girlfriends either FWIW.

Go on…what happened in the 1983 Finals
I know you like me but you'd never admit it publicly type shit, and I'm the cool with that. Just know the thing with my dad is he's basically Chad in 40 years- just smart and better looking.

...In front of All-In-Sunbury, there not may have been, WAS an equestrian-styled refusal to return to the fray after half time.

I don't share this with any joy.

He always looks like a Champion when I see highlights, can't say I saw him in the flesh given I was born in '82.

So yeah. You'd know who he was getting towelled-up by, I couldn't tell you. Only played another 5 games for us.

... you'd like this... he had 1 game in his 300 odd game career in which he got more than 30 possessions. 1.

Who was it against?

Norf, of course.

You probably need to revisit his whole career stats. Between the two clubs it’s pretty outstanding and I’m also fairly sure that many on here who saw him play would be surprised at the underselling of his career.

The two teams that gave us hidings in that 1983 Finals were Essendon and Hawthorn who both played in the GF, which the Hawks won in smashing. Both midfields were top notch the best.

So your two Rucks were Simon Madden and Ian Paton the General who were both elite.

The stats v Madden were on a par and he smashed Paton.

So idk, again, it would be helpful to have some further details.

Was at Waverley... that much i know. Pretty sure it was Hawthorn, not because of his own performance per se, but the team in general.

We played them both at Waverley and he was 34 hit outs to Patons 11 houts

Maybe Dipper ran through him

Time to ring the old man me thinks

I'll see him Wednesday, like he answers before that haha

Inaccurate stats here. He had four 30 plus disposals games and three were for North.
Also since when is it an issue for ruckmen of that or any era to not have 30 plus disposals games? Simon Madden’s highest in his career was 25. Ian Patons was 23. Mike Fitzpatrick’s was 29. Graeme Teasdale had one game of 30

Dempsey retired at age 35. He’d played most of his career with the scarring of his bad burns and then pulled the pin due to injuries in early 1984. His reasoning sounded pretty courageous and team oriented for such a distinguished and brave player. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Dempsey_(Australian_footballer)

I really don't care, he kicked me out when I was 18.. spent most of his cash on his 3rd wife, as long as there's something left for my daughter there won't be any issues. I certainly don't need anything from him, but if he wants to be a grandparent ie: my daughter is his only chance... I'll take that chance (my brother certainly isn't giving him any).

The Bible says 1. I trust the Bible over your feelz.

I think your missing the point

You’ve come here and labelled a Legend a coward based on one incident you are aware of; the point heem is making(and myself) is he went through adversity with those burns to make a career for himself that has him as a Hall of Famer. A coward surely would not make that position.

It’s a very big call to make and tbh

Fair enough. Before my time and apologies to those offended.

Not as though he is a Premiership Player though, he's got a Brownlow and was obviously a gun. That didn't stop certain sections of the faithful going after McKernan either who was a 2x premiership champion.

Dempsey was a bit of a coward tbh... not my opinion as I never saw him/it but the old man (who is a bit of a North-savage) said so, and frankly my old man is a clever campaigner.
Sorry man - not true. Dempsey was as brave as they came, and an incredible footballer whose record almost stands for itself. In 79 when we bowed out of the finals the the toothless ones, I was most disappointed for Gary as he came to North to win a flag and didn’t quite get what he came for. But he was seriously courageous, and in the absolute elite bracket of all-time ruckmen

Just caught up on the subsequent posts and well done Gasometer for your perspective on Gary. Whole heartedly agree with you.
As a 50+ year member whose seen a lot of players don our beautiful jumper, I don’t like to impress my opinion on the younger generation of kangas loyal (I have next generations of members from birth, some on this board) but this perspective on Gary is a bit like saying Bradman was suspect on his pads based on the one available YouTube video of him batting

I can remember watching Garry play in the early 80s both live and on tv and can never recall him taking a backward step and many times watched him run himself into the ground never giving up. That's courage's in itself.

Hey, I watched some highlights and I agree. It was just a one-off, I'm sure.

The Apple, as you well know, often doesn't fall far from the tree so maybe, and I'm just floating this... Dad, being a 2nd generation Shinboner didn't think much of the lay down Sally routine (in a final) against a most hated rival. I have no doubt the losses of '76,'78 may have played a part.

Who knows, I wasn't even 1 yet. Glad the old crew went into bat for him though, fair play to you boys. Noted, and respected.
