Test cricket is sometimes a game of inches and the old cliche of catches win matches certainly applies in this series.

The Brisbane test also comes to mind. Labs 2 screamers in Adelaide to break partnerships.

Australia took screamers and half chances but England have dropped some at crucial moments this series.

Well they don’t: ABC commentators literally yesterday were talking about how before play Jacob Bethel(?) took a number of screamers in their warm up fielding drills.

What they are doing however, clearly isn’t working because their fielding has been absolutely f**king terrible come game time, while Australia’s has been outstanding.
Warm up fielding drills and fielding practice are not the same thing.

I find it funny that in that Roaming Howie segment, at no point did they think to just clear what they were doing with the security prior to filming it

Your proximity to the padding is obviously a concern.

The trick I would say is to ascertain where you are in relation to the padding very early in the piece, not at the last moment as he has done here.

Hitting catches as part of the warm-up is hardly evidence of the Poms caring about fielding practice. They were doing what literally every park cricketer does before an innings, and I'd hardly say most of them give a toss about fielding practice.

lol, they’ve been doing them in training as well. They just don’t have a full time coach. They had one until a year ago - Carl Hopkinson - and also used to use Paul Collingwood who was one of the assistants until midway through last year and one of the best fieldsmen in modern cricket. Now the general coaching staff do it.

Aligning the outcome to ‘not giving a shit’ is stupid. Clearly it hasn’t worked and their catching has been of a terrible standard this series especially relative to Australia’s, where they have turned so many half-chances into game changing full ones. Getting something wrong is different to just not caring though.

Must've missed those balls as other than the dropped catch i thought this has been a fairly chanceless innings
The Jacks one on the rope was the easy one, the others were much harder, I love how they say he's had all these chances yet 9 times out of 10 nobody would have caught them.

yeah dunno if it happened when i stepped outside for a bit or not, but I didn't see any other than Jack's laughable drop

The catching has been a big difference between the two teams.
It hasn't just been the catching either, it's the entire attitude/skill in the field. From the keeper getting to the stumps to the quality of the throws in from the deep. You don't notice it as much on TV, but at the ground, there's a noticeable difference. The Bazball attcking enthusiasm doesn't seem to translate to the field it would seem.

MCC absolutely. Haven't been in the SACA to compare
The SCG one also has bigger w***ers in it than the other members areas so that is another factor.

Yep. Take your eyes off the ball at the last moment even for a split second and you are cooked.

Been dropped 5x
Definetly not chanceless but all 5 were essentially from poor shots as well
He's been dropped once from a regulation chance, the others they either stick or they don't. Because he goes so hard the only way these chances would go to hand is through a top edge or emhe picks out the fielder in the deep like the Jacks one. Anything inside the circle that he has got a decent amount of bat on can not possibly be classified as as chance.
