Should be a fascinating partnership here: Bethell and Root were going at about 2.5 in their partnership and look for all money to be focused on occupying the crease.

He's been OK and isn't the worst England player but he is another England all rounder who isn't that good at batting or bowling.

Unlike Bethell or Tongue I don't see him being a long term England test player but I could be wrong, maybe he can still improve.

He’s actually got a better first class average - and roughly the same strike rate - than Zak Crawley. If they could work on his bowling, given that they seem to have dispensed with Leach, maybe they could turn him into a Santner type that becomes useful

As much as I hate to say this, I'm starting to tire of... Jim Maxwell of all people. Barely goes a stint without making some snide comment about short form cricket or lack of technique etc. The last 2 summers have been horrible.

The sad thing is, I actually agree with most of what he says, but hearing it 5 or 6 times a day is just too much. He's slipped into old man shouting at clouds territory.

Might be time to hand the mantle over to the younger guys... I love listening to the cricket on ABC, but he has made me turn over to MMM a couple of times!
