Be careful what you wish for. Whilst indeed they should be removed. It has seldom resulted in the betterment of the people anytime the USA touches something. Either you split the country into years and years of ongoing civil war and regional instability, or you just replace one hardliner with another.
Not entirely relevant, but it reminds me of the British in India, and, in particular, the Partition of India and Pakistan that Mountbatten was responsible for. Mountbatten has achieved sainthood-like status but he completely botched the job, left hundreds of thousands if not millions to die, and also left a festering sore.
Its best not to meddle in another country’s affairs but it keeps happening.
Just now we have some US person commenting on our proposed hate speech laws.
Get your own house in order Madam before you worry about what we’re doing.

When did Australia have a flat 20% sales tax 🤷🏻‍♂️
Never.

The pre-GST sales tax regime was ad hoc at best; there was a broad range of sales taxes applied to products. It was called the Wholesale Sales Tax, and the rate varied depending on the product and was invisible to the final consumer. For example there was a 32% WST on TVs, stereos, watches, VCRs etc in 1999. Some products were at 22%, and some as high as 45%. Good luck knowing what was on what.

People shit on GST but it's so much better than the USA sales tax

Yep, Ill put it out there but Im all for making the 10% GST universal, by removing the exemptions and using the increased income to cut individual income tax, and remove state taxes like stamp duties.

First dominos starting to fall. However I'm still pissed off Congress outright looked the other way for so long they should be ashamed.

I will start cheering when the Senate convicts her. Given they refused to convict Trump after Jan6, not holding my breath.

Meanwhile in Trumpland

Attempts to investigate murdered woman's partner. Really what sort of evil sick mind thinks "We have murdered this woman, lets investigate her partner for imagined crimes".

This genuinely it’s possibly the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.

What country in their right mind would start a war with the USA 🤣 NATO would probably get beaten by the USA.

The same US that hasn't won a war for 80 years against countries far less equipped than NATO?

Amazing Yanks.
Dissent in the old US of A is something to smack down with bullets.
Dissent in Iran is to be applauded, even aided and abetted.
How do they sleep at night?

How do they sleep at night? Very easy I would say, especially the wealthy. As long as their US dollars are strong, most of them will sleep quite easily.

Australia (and others) don't have to cut off from the US completely, or its alliance, but you and government can bit by bit, day by day, try to hurt them financially as much as possible.

That's the only thing they will listen to.

For another reason - war time presidents poll very well and putting the US on a path to war also provides incentive for pushing a third term.....

Laughable, but I don’t buy Heinz, Colgate etc.
I saw a post some time ago of someone who cancelled Netflix and Spotify.
If enough people do it, the billionaires running the joint might notice.

He just died.

He'd been taking Ivermectin to treat it as well. Gee I wonder where he got that idea..

At least he died without worms.

For all Trumps faults (which are many):
  • He did campaign on reducing government spending (DOGE) and did follow through with limited results
  • He did campaign on introducing tariffs and he did follow through.
  • He did campaign on reducing the deficit and debt, and the deficit does now look to be going down.
  • He did campaign on ending expensive wars day 1. Didn’t do that, but he did manage to get Europe to start paying for Ukraine

Big Beautiful Bill anyone? Any reduction in the deficit it temporary at best.

And besides, there is every chance that tariffs are about to be ruled against.

On what basis would voters have felt that Harris was a better chance of bringing the debt and deficit under control?

For starters she would have hired people in financial positions who could add up. It would have been a massive improvement on the current situation.

Even Ed Gein wouldn't use that face for a lamp shade.

anthony scaramucci said in an interview trump was a fascist, and used the following 12 points from "the nazi mind" as an illustration. he says trump meets them all. make up your mind.

"In his 2025 book The Nazi Mind: Twelve Warnings From History, Laurence Rees uses historical and psychological research to identify specific warning signs that preceded the Holocaust and the Nazi state.

The twelve warnings identified in the book are.

  1. Democracy is More Fragile Than We Think: Institutions require constant vigilance to survive and can be broken far more easily than people imagine.
  2. Extremism Starts as a Fringe Movement: The Nazis initially held only a tiny fraction of the vote (2.6% in 1928) before economic crises allowed them to seize power within five years.
  3. The Dangers of Uniquely Targeted Racism: Unlike earlier religious persecution, Nazi anti-Semitism was based on inescapable heritage, leaving victims no way to save themselves through conversion or choice.
  4. Charismatic Leadership Requires Hero Worship: Authoritarians use propaganda to cultivate a "hero" status that bypasses rational political debate.
  5. Historical Ignorance Enables Extremism: A lack of historical literacy creates a vacuum filled by "fake history," misinformation, and conspiracy theories.
  6. The Manipulation of "Them" and "Us": Dividing populations into binary groups to foster "othering" and dehumanization.
  7. The Escalation of Racism: A gradual process where exclusionary language and policies slowly normalize extreme violence.
  8. The Exploitation of Fear: Using national or personal dread to justify the erosion of human rights.
  9. The Manipulation of Institutions: Systematically undermining established legal and social structures to remove checks on power.
  10. The Normalization of Conspiracy Theories: Using "hidden enemy" narratives to explain away complex social problems and provide targets for blame.
  11. Simplicity Over Policy: Replacing detailed governance with a vague but alluring vision of a "wonderful future" based on simple, high-level concepts.
  12. The Fragility of the Rule of Law: The rapid transition from a civilized society to one that justifies the "brutal elimination" of resistance and state-sponsored terror."
