A lot forget that Adelaide went into the 2017 final as healthy faves as well after finishing minor premieresHe is trolling, but nevertheless, it is worth underlining how ludicrous his ranking of Richmond 2017 & 2020 is.
1. the 2017 team smashed the other 3 teams who finished top 4 in the finals series by a minimum of 6 goals. They won the Grand Final by 48 points against a team who had dominated their 2 finals in that series. Richmond conceded 22 goals in 3 matches in that finals series, opposed only by top 4 teams. The best opposition teams in the competition could not come close to coping with Richmond's defence, or Dusty. In 2017 Richmond lost only 1 of its last 13 matches, v Geelong at Geelong.
2. the 2020 team needed to overcome all sorts or tribulations in order to win the flag. Nankervis, Edwards, Houli, Astbury and Prestia all missed around half the season or more. Lynch missed the first final altogether. That final and the Preliminary were played against teams on the opponent's home ground and the Grand Final was played against the Cats on their temporary 2020 home ground. Once Lynch returned and the long term absences had at least a couple of games each, the team performed exceptionally well. The Grand Final win was ultimately dominant, and had the game been played out over the normal duration, all indications were it would have been a 10 goal+ margin.
Premiership teams who won 3 flags and a minor Premiership in a 4 year period are not going to be in the bottom few flag teams within a quarter century period, that is patently ludicrous. But to really show how ridiculous it is....
- The 3 Richmond flag teams conceded the equivalent of 7.8 goals per final they played, and this is after adjusting for the shorter duration 2020 matches. This is the lowest of the AFL era and probably the lowest in history barring eras where grounds had no drainage when there was heavy rain. Remember that is 7.8 goals per game conceded v teams that finished 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 4, 4, 6, 6 on the home and away ladder. All matches were played in good conditions. These were the best teams in the competition, who between them could not manage to average 8 goals per final against these Richmond teams. There is every chance this Richmond defence would have broken any team in the AFL era.
- Richmond's dynasty Grand Final percentage, 222%, is the highest in the history of the competition for any team to play in multiple Grand Finals within a 7 year period. No other team has even come close to that in 128 years of history.
When people rate Premiership teams retrospectively, they tend to rate them according to how those teams were expected to perform in finals, rather than how they actually performed.
Exactly. Plus we hadn't beaten Geesook in a long time and knocked them off in the Qualifying final in our first finals break through for 20yrs.A lot forget that Adelaide went into the 2017 final as healthy faves as well after finishing minor premieres
We will never know but it would be interesting to know how they would of rated the crows in retrospect if they had won it
As is evidenced by Korn listing Shane Edwards amongst his list of Tiger role players during our era - sure we had a few role players (who are critically important in a successful team) but Shedda was far from a role player. Its all about individual AA players in his book. Punt road is Less stars/ more role players.
2017 Adelaide topped the AAs with 3.A lot forget that Adelaide went into the 2017 final as healthy faves as well after finishing minor premieres

I feel like the role player line gets over played so much nowadays. Everyone of those so called role players played elite football for their positions pretty ****ing regularly. As is evidenced by Korn listing Shane Edwards amongst his list of Tiger role players during our era - sure we had a few role players (who are critically important in a successful team) but Shedda was far from a role player.
Triple premiership, AA 300 plus game players are 100% elite A graders....
I wonder if Kane mentions that Port had a home QF and an extra day break before the GF even though Brisbane finished higher than them and should have had that advantage. Plus, Brisbane was a team of walking wounded when Port beat them.Let me guess Cornes has 2004 Premiership team ranked no 1
Stopped reading here...I feel like....
Don't forget they had already booked a first class seat for the premiership cup.A lot forget that Adelaide went into the 2017 final as healthy faves as well after finishing minor premieres

Agree2017 Adelaide topped the AAs with 3.
equal with Essadon 3 AAs WCE 3 AAs
2018 peak RFC AA performance with 4. Including Edwards.
Hawks, WCE 3 AAs,
5 Dees in the 2021 AA.
Personally I rated the Lions Aker, Voss Lions era as the best teams. F this All Australian crap anyhow. A team that never plays.
Wel Crows have done SFA since making the 2017 GF, we went on to win 2 more flags.A lot forget that Adelaide went into the 2017 final as healthy faves as well after finishing minor premieres
We will never know but it would be interesting to know how they would of rated the crows in retrospect if they had won it
Pre season banter. What does any of this have to do with pre season?
For such a good kick, he turns it over a lot. He tries dinky shit options and doesn’t just commit to one option. That stuff looks flashy at junior level which is where he seems to have peaked.
imagine the aa's if the same team wore navy hoopsWe had something like 18 AA squad members during the Hardwick reign and 14 were premiership players.
No doubt squad members < final team but still shows how highly talented the premiership teams were.
Brisbane Lions will win their 3 peat in 2026And no dynasty since.
Whilst your typing Tyler Sonsie is at your place cutting your lunchNot the first trouser snake to end a Premiership era unfortunately.
