Jagga, whom I liked, and if we had 2 picks, 1 and 2, likely we would’ve grabbed him.

1 Lalor, 7 Smillie, 11 Hotton is a damn good get.

There is no way I would draft Jagga ahead of Lalor.

All the best to him at carlton and next year's draft, Cody Walker will join him.

Lalor can play that dusty role, a match-winner who can play mid and forward.

Nothing against Jagga Smith, but I can’t see him carrying a team. Who knows, I could be proved wrong as the years go on, but atm he’s smaller than a pencil.

Jagga has always been an accumulator, a good runner, from watching him in the U18’s.
Now, as he racks up the disposals in the AFL, once he gets tagged, how will he handle it? Can he roll forward and out-bustle his opponents, or rip a game in half by kicking 3 or 4 goals. I don’t see him as that type of player.

Jagga is very balanced, light on his feet, delivers beautifully to leading forwards. Very Naicos in that way.

Bit jelly tbh.

But heat of the battle is where Naicos goes missing, will be interesting to see Lalor and Jagga in that context eventually, as you say.

Did you watch him trying to defend Holmes?

In a finals game when the pressure is at fever pitch, and it's contested on every line its where the Dustys of this world set themselves apart. I truly believe that Lalor will be that player in the biggest games.

Restricted FA.

Cats offer a fake $1.2m contract when his market value is around $2m.

Port naturally matches.

Cats have to satisfy Port in a trade. His trade value would be a top 5 pick + a top 10 pick. Let's says picks 4 & 9. How do the Cats come up with those picks?
It's very hard to see on 2 x fronts.

Cats have always maintained they don't 'overpay' anyone...it's their 'super power' of list management where nobody gets any sort of massive contract.

Butters will have others offer him $2m/season over 7-years or so.

How much less would he take to go to the Cats? Is he really taking around $1.4m/season and costing himself $4m? No way would the Cats offer more than $1.4-$1.5m if true to themselves.

And as you say....where are they getting 2 x top-10 picks with one of them a top-5 pick from?

End of this year they'll have let's say pick-14, pick-32. Then next year with Tassie it'll be pick-24 and pick-42. SO future picks are worth nada from Geelong.

SO if they want Butters, they'll need to trade out at least 1 x high quality player.

no doubt there will be chinks.

these very outside accumulators have a role to play though, grill the obvious one for us for that role

This is a big reason we lost a single game that mattered 2017-20. We had midfielders who won contests, did damage and defended well. We didn't have any possession accumulators.

Got to laugh, we are so worried that our players will end up injury busts that players such as jagga are now just stat padders lmao
smilie is already a bust, blokes like 204 cms now. hes outgrown his original position

Loved Jagga in his draft year and he was the one I wanted at 1. But Lalor hasn’t disappointed and I wouldn’t swap them. Lalor will be much more damaging when the heat is on, particularly forward.

But Jagga will be a gun. Racks them up, uses it well, puts the ball in good positions.

Carlton supporters should be ecstatic with that trade.
