Think the team is pretty set. Would of been very interesting if Byrnes was fit if he would of played in front of anyone. Looks like Carroll will get a go first up. Wood seemed a little underdone but with 5 on the bench we could afford to manage his minutes more. He is handy to have as a spare taller forward if someone goes down. I think Hugo may be unlucky to miss out.

I’m confident in what this team can do but confused as to why people are saying this is a “must win”. Why?

Collingwood have been really good for a number of years now and won’t be overawed by the huge crowd and occasion.

Our team is the opposite and will need some time to gel when the real stuff starts. I think we’re the better team but every chance we lose this game, and if we do it’ll be a good learning experience.
Trick question im guessing because if you dont know ...............................................................

Any chance Banfield gets a run with Byrnes going down and Wood a little sore/underdone ?.
I happily surprised that the training reports look spot on with this kid but we've got a pretty difficult start to the season and we don't need to be ****ing around debuting kids in Round 0, only game in town, in front of 90K, in a match that will define the media narrative for our season.
But, also, he'd be a chance 😄
I'd just prefer a known, senior level player.

It's a must-win simply for morale imo, more importantly for the supporter base and club as a whole.

I think it's a bit of a poisoned chalice

we win and it'll be because the Pies are no good, too old, injuries etc..
we lose, and they'll come for us quicker and harder than we have seen in a long time

the closer we get the more I'm regretting going away on holidays, spweing to miss this game.

It’s a “must win” because these marquee games are the kind of games we now
must win 🤣

We’re getting the Pies at a good time, and we are finally on the big stage.
We need to embrace the moment - now.

Will do wonders for our confidence and help set up the season.
IMO, a win here is worth more than the “4 points.”

Banking respect from the competition, opposition fans and head office. Setting ourselves up as a serious prime time draw card too. This is a statement piece that just has to be at an absolute minimum an amazing spectacle. You don’t get many chances to reframe the way you present yourself. We have been wanting this for years. Just have to puff our chests out and go for it.

If we start the year well, we will get better TV slots in the back half of the season.

We need to become the kings of Saturday night again - not the Sunday afternoon joke that we’ve been for years now.

Saturday Night Saints at Docklands, we had a **** off long undefeated streak there.

2008 beating the Hawks was the best win in that run.

Jason Blake turning into a RUCK GOD

Who would be ahead of him in for the wing position if Byrnes and Wood aren’t around ?.

Henry would probably a gimme if not for the hammy, no O’Connell and Trav/Hastie appear to be back in the pecking order.

I have dreams of him deputing like Jimmy Gwilt ala the 2005 finals series….

Bang On, certainly feels like one of those moments.

I've been keeping an eye on the main board ladder predictor thread, it's been interesting to see the perception of our list changing

Started out as missing finals to most having us in there now from 4-10

This'll surely be the most saints fans at a game since the GFs right? Or the prelims.

Gonna be loud :D been so long since I've been to a game like this - missed the 2023 final.

First 10 mins will be huge.
150th anniversary game against Essendon at the G was pretty rowdy in 2023

Ride the wave and who knows, why not us?

The playing group has the belief and balls and its time to exorcize some demons and time to cannonise some new saints.
Would be absolutely evolutionary to exorcist the Shitting Bed In High Pressure Games demon. Until we do, the spectre of the Good Friday Bedshitting will always chain my heart and freeze my belief.

My girlfriend has only been to games at Marvel with smallish crowds since we've been together. She'd never been to the footy prior to that. Can't wait to see her reaction on Sunday.

Well said. Its not all going to change with one game, but look at the power of that ONE game against the Demons...

Even the usual media opinionards are starting to mitigate their barbs with fear and respect.

Most of all, if the team can convince this lethargic fanbase to turn up for games thix year despite the inconvenience, we might even eventually elevate our status to "mid-sized Victorian club" like the Hawks and Cats

Just on this: anyone else notice that Purple has gone from “must play a preliminary” post trade period, to “must win a final” now.
Given that might mean finishing 10th and then winning a knockout game (note: according to the AFL, this knockout game IS a final), this is a fair rewriting of success benchmark setting.
Maybe, someone higher up has read the tea leaves to him?

Liam Ryan will be the bargain of the offseason. He will have some quiet periods but he is someone who doesn’t waste a disposal fwd of centre. Something we haven’t had since Schneider IMO.

The supporter base sure, it would be an awesome win and a gut punch to drop this one, but if it’s a hard fought battle I can’t imagine anyone spitting the dummy.

Inside the four walls I guarantee they’re treating it like any other game. Win, lose or draw Ross and co will be focused on what to improve and getting the next four points.

I saw Schneids waste a disposal once… 😬😭

Joey have him a good clip and enough others have probably told him he’s a ****wit that he’s backed off a bit. Was always an absurd click bait statement.
