F1 F1 2026 Season

I'm in the minority clearly but I prefer Sky. That's just become the sound of F1 to me. I don't agree with some of what they say but I still enjoy their broadcast.
Brundle is OK, Nico Rosberg is good (for the few races they have him), and Bernie Collins is excellent. The rest of them are universally terrible.

I'm a huge Jenson fan.

Croft is definitely good - if you take him for what he is, the colour commentator that injects excitement into the mundane.

He's not here for the hardcore F1 fans like us. We may enjoy having an ex-driver commentator talk about aero setups and rates of tyre degradation and different exits out of Turn 3, but the casuals definitely don't.

Croft's pro-pommie bias & barracking makes him unlistenable.

Yep, pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

As has been mentioned before, Sky have their faults, and I don't dislike the F1 feed, but on the few times I tried the F1 feed I couldn't help feel that I was missing out on the Sky take of events.

I'm yet to find myself watching Sky and wondering what the F1 feed are doing.

I think Sky will be slightly more sufferable pumping up George's tyres while deathriding Kimi when compared to the Lando/Oscar shitshow we got last year.

I've been kind of alarmed at the Norris PR during the off season. It really was ramped up more than I thought it'd be. I thought there'd be more humility with it since the biggest difference between Norris and Piastri being champions is the, non-driving or driver choosing, factor of pit stops.

Drivers have been hugely undermined by their teams before, maybe even more than Piastri. But the difference between this and Hamilton/Bottas, Schumacher/Barrichello, is that Hamilton/Schumacher won by such a margin that you couldn't point to a favourable pit strategy making a difference.

It's only just made palatable with so many non-Australian diminishing Norris and pumping up Piastri.

Foxtel has extended F1 coverage from 2027 in new $60m a year (was $45m) multi year deal. Although can't find to what year that extends to.
60 mill doesn't sound a lot?

Feel like the rights deal is less about the commentary team and more about what a Kayo/Foxtel user is missing out on compared to what Apple is doing in the US.

Onboard cam for all drivers, multi-view split screen, only track sounds no commentary feed. Still need to see them actually execute it well, but considering my main criticism of Sky is what they choose to focus on, then being able to essentially customise your own experience feels miles ahead of what Kayo/Foxtel offer.

Apparently Sky have gotten rid of Danica for this season.
Great news, not sure I have come across a more insufferable person involved with any sports coverage.

Not only does she seem bat shit insane but has never offered anything insightful either.

Newey has provided more insight into the AM vibration problems. Wow - that car is bad!

Apparently Alonso says he can only drive 25 laps before risking permanent nerve damage to his hands, while Stroll says it's only 15 laps for him.

Apparently they've figured out a way of shielding the batteries from the worst of the vibration, but they can't do that to the rest of the car - including the steering wheel in the driver's hands.

Someone, somewhere making decisions has the same self destructive attraction to feisty brunettes that I have.

I looked past the lizard people, the Jenson Button torture, but I could never get past the lack of awareness or understanding of what was happening on any given race weekend.

In contrast, Bernie Collins offers thorough insight, excellent analysis and great questions while making it accessible to the average viewer too - admittedly her accent is impenetrable to me at times

Wish we'd focus more attention on her as an example of women in motorsport rather than the controversies of Danica Patrick.

Agreed - They're based in the UK... From a bias point of view their coverage is impeccable compared to the Australian FTA offering (at least for the Australian GP).

Also, does the global F1 feed provide the same level of analysis post practice, quali, race? That would be a huge loss if Sky aren't the broadcast partner.

They ran a really good segment on one of the pre/post race shows last year looking at women in F1. She wandered down the pit lane and spoke to a few women in different teams about their roles and how they ended up in F1.

It was absolutely brilliant, both from an insight and PR perspective.

So what you’re saying is she deserves more than just the medghum focus she’s currently getting?

In other news, it’s now looking increasingly likely that Bahrain and Saudi will be canned, which opens up a few possible scenarios.

From most to least likely IMO

1. The season gets reduced to 22 rounds, leaving a five-week break between Suzuka and Miami.

2. Back to back races at Suzuka.

3. Imola or Istanbul stepping in to host a race on short notice.

Azerbaijan has also just been dragged into the conflict, so if the war drags on, that round could end up on the chopping block later in the year as well.
