Hi everyone, in order to stop this thread devolving into a geopolitical shitfight I’m asking that no more posts regarding the situation in the Middle East be put in this thread. This is a football related board, if you wish to discuss such things then please take it to the SRP board. Yes I know it’s difficult to separate Alex Pearce the footballer with what he believes or doesn’t believe outside of football, but this board is not the place for that.

I’m going to tidy this thread up, and the other mods & I will be deleting any further posts of a similar nature. Thanks for your understanding.

Just a general point generally about kicking. There's enough room to get a 2.5m wide truck through two goal posts 7m apart so why is one kick that goes out to a boundary wing where a teammate doesn't make a contest any worse than a kick for goal that misses.

I don’t think anyone has made that claim.

Pearce misses routine and easy passes to team mates regularly. These put us under pressure and often lead to goals. It is a valid area of criticism. He is a poor field kick. Often very poor.

He missed Cox with a pass by about 10m too. Cox got it on the bounce but it put him under pressure. This was a routine switch of play kick and he missed by miles.

My comment is more. If you’re going to take your 8 seconds. If there’s no short option on. Why in the world would you then go short to a contest?

That’s a combination of stupid that a captain shouldn’t have. Add the fact he’s a poor kick and it’s not longer just stupid. It goes beyond words.

Pearce's has kicking limitations but generally is sound and even above that this year. You can find examples of below average skill execution and above average skill execution across the board by Fremantle players in that Brisbane game.

I’ve never noticed his bad kicking but it was very obvious how bad it was on Friday. Felt like every single kick he had ended up 5-10m shorter than where he intended

Pearce has always been a little suspect, my suspicion is it isn't helped by a lack of full confidence in his body right now.

I like Pearce & think he’s been a great captain. He no doubt took the reins whilst a few of our younger mids were still finding their way & maturing. Being a captain of club isn’t just about tossing the coin, there’s a lot of extra time taken in education not to mention the obvious responsibilities off field of being the club captain.

But it is now the right time to hand over the role to either Serong or Brayshaw with an outsider being Treacy, but I think he’s still maturing. Serong or Brayshaw are now the right age & have an understanding of the responsibilities associated with being the leader on & off field.

We are at the beginning of our window & now’s the time to make the change.

If the choice is between Serong and Brayshaw, it’s Serong and it’s not even close imo.

Brayshaw goes missing in big games, a lot. He isn’t the kind of leader that’ll give a spray if things aren’t going well. Caleb is.

Caleb and JT are the only two genuine options.

Literally everyone in our backline does this

Clark does it all the time

Chapman does it all the time

Cox does it often

Banfield ofc

I'd say it happens in every team around the league, noone hits every kick, Pearce is fine

I remember you bringing this up earlier in the season and I watched carefully after that, if anything, Pearce did it less than someone like Clark/Chapman lol

I just couldn't be bothered with the argument at the time and I'm hesitant to post this for the same reason lol (even though its right)

Nailed it, especially the bit about how it feels a waste of time making the point

I'm personally fine with Pearce as captain, he does a good job, but I think transitioning to one of Brayshaw or Serong, maybe even Treacy over the next couple of years is the natural progression of things

The players know who they want to stand beside as their captain. We honestly have no idea so it's moot discussing it.

Let me get this straight though. If Pearce hits a few more kicks he's a better captain?

Confused Gary Coleman GIF

But that is exactly why we’re here, to discuss stuff we have no idea on.

This guy can’t be captain.
Too occupied with his injuries. When he’s underdone, he’s awful.
Always thought this, he shouldn’t have any leadership responsibilities when his sole focus should be footy and his body.

Wasn't the one playing on Neale today.

McDonald was truly awful and Pearce couldn't make up for it as lose man quite enough. If B.Cox plays today we win and Pearce not getting to a few of those balls isn't as much of an issue.

He was on Neale a few times and was demolished. Then as third man up he went marks instead of spoils and was beaten badly. Simple, momentum killing errors and that doesn't include hie usual rubbish kicks straight to the opposition.

He was out of sorts.
He can’t play the lockdown type because he has lost his step.

Think people underrate just how important Cox is to the group.
