Meanwhile, the US oil embargo on Cuba has created power shortages and Trump is threatening to invade. Can't wait til the usual defenders of US Imperial wars come and tell us what a great day it will be for Cubans when the US invade.

Who would have thought that in 2026, the two most supposed powerful militaries on earth would have been found to be wanting.

Russia is bogged down 100km from their border 4 years in against a inferior opponent having lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers, whilst Trump's is embarrassingly calling the world for help for the US Army who aren't covering themselves in glory and being shut down.

' have you seen how old their cars are . let America show them what good American cars can do . I told my good friend Fidel once he needed to let me build a hotel there. Great man great great man. He said yes but it got cancelled thats why its important America free Cuba from tyranny - is that how you say it tyr-an-knee - yeah . Smartest man in the room. Genetics '

Never understood the Republicans obsession with permanently punishing Cuba. Castro is long dead, as is Communism, the Soviet Union etc. But decades on, many old dinosaurs and some new, still harbor an on going hatred of Cuba.

About time they grew the f up and moved on. Starving and punishing people economically for no reason.

WTF takes on a job they are totally unqualified for?

Anyone who realises deep down that their abject lack of competence and principles means they would never get a high-level role in a meritocracy. Just suck up to the right people, dump any semblance of a moral code, and hang on.

Rubio is doing it to get revenge for his parents who fled Cuba during Batista.

Another one with daddy issues.

It's not just Rubio. It's a big Florida thing.

There's a lot of Cuban money in Florida running the GOP (and Democrats) down there ( you won't win without the Cuban vote and they're a one-issue voting bloc). All emigres whose corrupt parents or grandparents were chased out of Cuba and want their fiefdom back.

And they don't care that ordinary Cubans have been punished for 60 years to achieve it. They're corrupt officials after all, ordinary Cuban people don't matter to them.

It's like why the Liberal Party in Australia has to remain racist just to please the outback LNP parts of the party.

The US military is just fine. They have shown they can obliterate nearly any enemy whenever they want.

The problem isn't the US military, it's the political leadership.

The US military has defeated the Iranian military just fine. It's just that there isn't an end plan. They're just blowing it up for no reason, so it's all pointless. But they're still good at it.

If they really wanted to invade, they would win that too, but it would cost too many dead soldiers and end up like Afghanistan or Iraq which are now ruled by the regimes the US overthrew. Russia doesn't care anywhere near as much about dead soldiers.

I don't see a difference between a state ruled by a king and the US with Trump right now.

Have to disagree. They'd lose, just like they lost Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam. Korea ended in a stalemate. The loss of blood and treasure will dwarf all of those combined.

The military would win, can win, anywhere. The cost would be higher than those other conflicts, but they could still win. Russia can't even complete the initial takeover in Ukraine.

The politicians are the ones who lost Afghanistan and Iraq, perhaps they were never actually winnable.

But those were not the military's fault. (Vietnam and Korea were the military's fault)
