we absolutely have to get this guy, if nothing else but to stop the crows..Crows are throwing 7 years for $10 million. You would think Port will have to offer a little bit more considering where we are and where they are regarding their list.
7 years for 11 million? Extra million will do wonders if a player is looking to get setup for life post footy in this current climate.we absolutely have to get this guy, if nothing else but to stop the crows..
hes a gun and proven big game player coming into his prime.

Honestly he’s a two time premiership winner and All Australian.Whether Port win from a Butters trade or not hinges on if they get Bailey. I know that it is independent of each other but, if we flip Butters for 3 first rounders (that are inside top 15) and Bailey, I think Port will be better off compared to simply keeping Butters.

What would be the attraction of coming to a Port side that’s going to struggle.
Honest question as I haven’t heard one thing to give me any confidence he would come to us.
We know Dawson was a big crow fan growing up and I think Rankine was also, not sure. Why did Dawson and Rankine go to the crows when they were pretty much shite? Players choose clubs for all sorts of reasons, not least being they think they can make a side better.
I had heard last year that Port did some heavy lifting on Bailey that was sidetracked by Wanganeen-Milera becoming a possibility. The crows aren't the only ones into Bailey and they may not even be the first date.
Rankine was a Crows supporter growing up.We know Dawson was a big crow fan growing up and I think Rankine was also, not sure.
So there was something there to attract them to the Crows.
I’ve just never heard of a reason that would attract him to us.
Be great if we could get him.
Of course he wasRankine was a Crows supporter growing up.
I don’t know how anyone would be happy with this outcome.I love Butters and want him to stay but if we are rebuilding or if he leaves, I want three first rounders in 2026 to help getting Cochrane and some top midfielders and tall timber defenders.
Then doing our best to grab Pilot, Salopek, Rodan, Tambe in the next year.
Still got a ways to go though.
The cards we are dealt because AFL, Koch and Stinkley.I don’t know how anyone would be happy with this outcome.
Brisbane didn’t need to lose Mcluggage lever player to secure the ashcrofts, fletcher etc.
Bulldogs didn’t need to lose Bont to get all their academy/father sons.
I understand we are going to be screwed by the new bidding rules, but If we lose our best player and only get capital to get players we are entitled to, that would be nothing short of a disaster.

And the vic media will chuckle it away and move onThis is going to happen to us, and then the AFL are going to realise the rules are too stringent and loosen them back off.

If Butters leaves, I want the capital from a Butters trade to go into fresh, young talent outside of the Academy, Father Sons. My preference for 2026 would be Cochrane, stud midfielders and KPD.
In 2027, do our best without the Butters picks because we've already spent them and grab Pilot, Salopek, Rodan, Tambe, etc. with whatever draft capital we have.
They dont enter the trade until 2027 thoughAlthough Tassie hold a huge handful of the early draft picks for 27, one of their requirements is that they have to use some of them in trades and not take them to the draft.
5,7,11 and 13 are on the table for trades for 2027. The Dogs or any club wanting Butters, will have to work out a way to get minimum 1 but maybe 2 of those picks of they are to offer a reasonable price. That will likely require them parting with a player or two and upping their F1 position.

It's yet another reason to not change the bidding rules until after Tassie come in... half the (actual) first round picks for 2027 aren't on the table until that year's trading period. Clubs have very limited scope to prepare or respond to the changes. They dont enter the trade until 2027 though
Apologise. My post is a general statement thenYou didn't read my post correctly at all.

Young players with a lot of potential or high draft picks. Whatever. I would prefer draft picks because it means Carr can pick and choose what he wants.3 top 15 picks for butters is a horrid deal for us in terms of what we lose versus likely gain with those picks… and it’s also very likely unattainable..
No team has 3 2026 1st rounders to trade to us.
Due to following expan drafts there’s gonna be very few top 2026 1sts available. Plus other teams will want them for their ngas / f/s ie Carlton.
The odds of getting a top 15 2027 pick is incredibly slim. Thanks to Tassie having dibs on a bunch of the top 15 even before compo picks are added, you basically land what would have been pick 5 would end up pick 15. The odds of somehow getting one the the top few 2027 1st rounders included in a deal when butters will be looking at contending teams is very low.
This is why we need a team to have quality players on the table. We need to be making noises now that any team interested is gonna have to be willing to part with quality players or he can go to the cellar dweller. Players dont have to come to us can go in a 3 way trade ie sanders to crows or whatever if that unlocks better picks for us
I’m not sure how we can guarantee we’re getting picks to use outside of nga’s when nga costs are going sky high and 2027 and 2028 draft picks are gonna be worth half their value ie 2026 dogs 1st rounder could be pick 18 , 2027 1st could be pick 30 something.
The gws expan draft 2nd round started at pick 29 from memory, and there was fewer picks being pushed back then. Far fewer.
