Here's a good debate:

Would you rather Ben King for nothing but salary?

Or Zak Butters, but we have to pay a fortune in picks/players, on top of the huge contract?

My mind went to Butters in a heartbeat, but the longer you think about it, the tougher it gets IMO.
Forward ain't for nothing
And mid for free! (Another TK please)

Planning for life after Cameron

King would be a great get but i doubt he leaves there. Walter on the other hand might.

Walter and Neale could be a pretty threatening combination. It would set the forward line up for the next 10 years. Might not have many draft picks after that, but would still have cap space to chase a FA mid in the next year or two. With no picks to trade, would be pointless matching an offer from us. At the end of 2027, all of the following come out of contract as (R)FA - Miller, Anderson and Rowell at GCS (unlikely to get any of them), Green at GWS (would need a cap squeeze at the Giants) + Ash also - appreciating HBF rather than mid, Day at Haw (perpetually injured), Warner at Sydney (Perth or Sydney), Rivers at Melb (we need contested not outside).

I'd factor in that Walter isn't a great kick or decision maker.

There aren't going to be many options out there that are attainable, but also have great skills and smarts.

Maybe we'll see Henry have a late career cameo at CHF once Cameron retires. A more successful Harry Taylor experiment.

They have been for over a year.

Thought someone on here suggested he was all but coming to us? Anyway, you’d have to give up the farm to land him. Mind you, we probably still have a few farms left to hand over…

Seems that the Dogs are pretty strong favs to land Butters.

They can have him , and i hope they land him

That masterclass demolition 84 pt flogging by Geel in that final at the Ade Oval - Butters was absolutely pathetic , not to be seen , thats when you need to stand up and be counted when your team is being badly beaten , and he didnt give a yelp - oh but but but but , no not interested .

Mitch Cleary talking the possibility of Tom Stewart finishing his career in Tassie.
Please no.
Stewart Henry humphries bruhn zuthrie SDK Kolo moving forward so important
Get a ruck and a class mid and we're set for sometime

He shouldn't have even played that night - he was injured and subbed off after just 32% TOG

That'll be in 2028 at a minimum when Stewart will be 35 years old.

If that departure has a massive impact on us on-field at that point in his career, then we've got huge issues.

If Stewy wants to end his career making back the money that he missed out on in his prime, then more power to him IMO. He's earned that.

Hofmann should be rising by this point too.

Part of the reason we couldnt get Marshall done. St Kilda had soaked up all his contract by front loading massively and wanted to be rewarded for absorbing it.
I think we will be much happier with barker in the long run than Marshall.

Cameron was no where to be sewn against Richmond in his GF appearance for GWS

I’d luv him to be a 1 club player but at 35 he’ll be close to done… and if he grabs an extra 400k for a year in Tassie it can’t fault that.. as much as he’s awesome and one of my fav current Cats

Go Catters

They are for a few reasons but hes a winner and he wants to win and Beveridge consistently underachieves at winning with a great list. I think it depends entirely on how the dogs go this year. If they go deep in finals he will go there. If they miss finals again he will likely come here as I doubt he wants to live in the city (which means us and the dogs are the two obvious options).

Why does it feel like they've run out of names after the first 3

No one is taking Witts he will retire and impey and Greene wont leave so i agree with you.

Maybe. Neither Barker nor Edwards will be ready and in their prime until after our window is closed whereas marshall was for the now.

People have been predicting the closing of our premiership window for the last 15 years.

So true
I think PO sometimes assumes his opinion is fact
22 was a surprise for many
So predicting future fortunes can be perilous especially when it comes to Geelong

Let's see how Molier goes in the next year or so.
With all due respect to Molier, he is absolutely a long-shot smokey and should be considered as such. Most kids drafted at his pick do not make it; it would be folly not to be chasing a long-term established, high-talent target.
