Honestly, I doubt Trump has any fondness for, or even interest in, his German roots. I suspect he wouldn't even know his great grandfather's name.

The main bit that you missed is that he is so easily manipulated. It exists on 2 levels. First, like any other toddler, he is a sucker for anyone who strokes his ego. All of the incompetent sycophants who surround him know this. It's the reason why they are there and it's also the reason why he listens to their moronic advice.
