Three weeks of full contact training and we hopefully get a handful of games into him.
I would advise the young fella to give Jack Graham a ring, from memory Jack done a similar injury from a miscalculated tackle, a 15min chat with JGTI may involve changing tackling techniques and advice on surgery.

Should have booked him in for surgery straight away.
wait till it comes to it, and they just wasted like 4-5 weeks for nothing.
Agreed

Not really
If he plays a handful of games before the surgery he gets experience this year instead of none at all

Annable at the Lions injured his shoulder in his first game and is booked for surgery on Thursday to get him fixed up immediately.

We should have done the same with Cumming and still could have played him later in the season if the recovery went well.

Surgery meant out for the year. I'll take the 4-5 weeks. If he does it again, then it is surgery, but if he doesn't he might play the year out.

But Cumming re-injury was on the minor side. He said he was pain free the evening he did it. Annable's could have been far worse who knows.

Minor side or not, it's a repeat injury, which suggests that there is a likelihood that he will injure it again, so IMO the best course would be to get it sorted now, and have him available for the start of preseason with no ongoing concerns hopefully.

If he plays this year and gets through to say August with no issues and then does the injury a 3rd time and then needs surgery then he is effectively missing the ability to do any strength training through most of the summer.

Anyways like pretty much everyone else here we have no real knowledge of the situation and can only back the club to make the right call.

We have experience doctors not only at the club but also external specialists that Cumming would have seen and consulted
The decision would have been made with their full knowledge and recommendation.
People here are gun shy due to Smillie's injury which most likely has never been seen at AFL level and this is not the same
its a common injury that most clubs would have handled regularly so not concerned

Confidence-wise, for the kid to play games will be a positive.

agree 99% of good suburban footballers back in the day play on with this injury for 10 years with minor or no discomfort where or because surgery is too costly or was less advanced.......guessing but expecting if end of season op is required it will be a minor clean up to tighten things up and suck out some scar tissue.

Disagree... he'll get a crack at 4-5 games unless he hurts it again and with suregery then he'll still be right for pre-season. If he had surgery straight away, would be doubtful to play at all this year. They obviously want to give him some exposure so he knows what he needs to work towards in pre-season number 2.
