It is a measuring contest though.. All we have as a tool for comparison across generations

An awesome career, but you need to stack rank him against others if you really want to see his standing in the Game
I don’t think he’ll be a Legend (at least based on his playing career). That is the realm of multiple Brownlows / Colemans and the like - as you say, GAJ & Buddy will be there but not sure who else from recent years.

The fact that it is debatable reflects well on him of course.

Sits comfortably with Selwood, Dangerfield, Hodge, Neale, Mitchell and Dusty on the rung below legend status (IMO). Bloody good company to keep.

I feel like Hodge had solid skills under the hottest pressure and his captaincy is a level above nearly all modern captains.

Pendles has him covered for consistency (just) and longevity (easily) but as good a captain/leader he became (and it was pretty good), he's not in Hodges stratosphere.

Thats a very interesting one to compare but id have Hodge ahead even with way less games.

I mean they are on the same tier, not comparing like-like. Greats of the last few decades.

Pretty different players

Believe I saw a stat somewhere that Pendlepunch has the worst goals/goal assists average in finals for midfielders who've played at least a handful of finals so stats don't get skewed by 1 game.

Good player, obviously very durable, but nothing special.

Kicked a goal in a winning grand final in 2023 so that’s all that matters :) having said that we have experimented with him as a forward at times with mixed results

Low quality bait
