Autopsy Round 2, 2026: Hawks pluck Swans

Also shout out to Sammy and the rest of the guys in the coaches box for getting the win. They made adjustments during the game that got us the win. Started off by getting the game on our terms with a more contested game in the second quarter and by moving Barrass onto Curnow, then also more changes which saw us control the clearances more when Swans had won something like 17 of the last 20 clearances before we started to win more of them. Switching Ginni onto the wing and Butler up forward got them both more involved in the game too. Great job by all involved.

We've kicked 49:45 this season compared to our oppo kicking 45:17! I wonder if we are conceding easy shots on goal or have just been stiff in that the other side just can't miss.
That's a crazy stat. I noticed that our opposition has been unusually accurate but didn't want to make excuses for getting scored against. When you present it as sum of all three games 45.17 is an insane conversion rate. Thats 1 behind they're scoring for every 2.65 goals as compared to essentially 1 to 1 for us.

69 scoring shots in two games is pretty insane.

If only we can fix that accuracy. Would of belted the Bombers by over 100 last week and last night would of been a comfortable win set up in the 2nd QTR.

I hope it doesn't bite us in the ass one day.

Tom Barrass may be our most important player. Stats don’t reflect the impact he has.
I saw an article during the week (can’t remember from who) about each teams most valuable player & they had TB for us which I thought was strange.. but after last nights game I get it

Ignore the one **** up but Ward is strong over the ball now. Doesn't get knocked off it much. Clean user too.

This was a realisation I had as well. Very confident now when he's tracking a loose footy alongside an opponent that he'll win it or halve it at worst.

Conceding lots of shots at goal 20-30m out, many of them from open play as opposed to set shots.

Comes down to defending from our back half, when teams do break through, they’re able to transition pretty quickly and deeply. Just something we have to keep working on.

I thought Battle was getting touched up early by Curnow. Came good later but also looked like TB swapped over to him. TB mammoth. What a pick up he has been.
Run and gun first quarter where both teams defense looked suspect. But we settled better and had a great 3 remaining quarters.

Impressed with Cam Mackenzie. Doesn't look like a junior anymore in there. And weaves his way through traffic nicely. Some times I thought he was holding on to the ball too long before kicking but he got I think pretty much all of them off. Ward also strong. Jai on multiple occasions was bent over holding off his man and scooping the ball up to give off. Incredibly strong boy. Well done captain.

Chol should have had 6. Needs to stick these marks. Looks like he is getting up a lot easier and more energy later in games due to less ruck work.
As for the ruck combo. I love it. Makes us so much more dynamic in the midfield. Ned Reeves looks very sharp.

Cmac/Moore/D'Amnrosio all had solid games. Gunners has 6 more seasons in him. Solid team effort. I thought this game is going to tell us a bit about what direction this team will head in this season. Pleased to see what we did. Go Hawks!

We won that by 50+ on expected scores. Work on centre clearances and converting chances then we’re right in this.
Nothing better than when stats completely validating your opinion.

They got some lucky goals too. Dominant display against a good side.

Its a good point you make those fast hands were hard to stop we couldn't apply any pressure across the ground early.

I thought the coaches did a good job at quarter time. The defensive system looked a lot stronger as the game went and fatigued set in.

The cats game will be interesting fast break vs control!

Newcombe was awesome last night and showed what a A-Grader his becoming if not already is, he carried the team to a victory.

Shows how much we need another Gun midfielder to help him out but, we also need to get more accurate in front of goal two weeks in a row we could have really put a side to the sword, last week could have been closer to 100 this week could have been a 6/ 7. Goal win game

Some of the cry baby swines fans have short memories. I remember being 70 pts down 2 years ago at the G to the swans and Chad Warner running around giving money bags celes to our fans in the front row. Get some back I reckon pack your bags

Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn’t realised. I did also notice Butler getting around the ball in the last as well, I couldn’t tell if he was doing a job on a Swans player.
