I'm with Kane a bit here. I want us to be stronger and push back at every opportunity. He's our player for **** sake.

I'd even start targetting some of their players in the media

Half of this shit is marketing and setting that baseline.
The silence suggests that he's gone.

Welcome to every press conference Josh conducts until Zak re-signs.

Hes contracted Port Adelaide player we expect him to continue to be and we are working towards that.

End of story.

Absolutely no need to carry it on any further. Leave the media to do what they do.

My two cents…ore more

1) money no issue, will get plenty wherever he is, so it’s all out about environment, prospect of premiership etc

2) Only known one coach, one environment. Not going to know Port under Carr for sure until round 15/16 or more…so no decision to come before then. Therefore on the club to make him want to stay.

3) no point saying anything other than he he is happy with how negotiations with the club are going…anything else just gives more crapnfor the media and makes it worse than what it already is.

4) best for club to keep quiet too. Likely have agreed with Zak that they won’t respond to media bait. Either we make silly cranky responses or silly gushy we love Zak responses, neither would help ultimately.

5) If he tells the club he is leaving 4 months from now, we set the terms with his manager on what an acceptable package will be on trade and tell them to get to work.

6) it won’t involve just one club, destination club will trade with others to pull the players/package together. ‘Third party’ clubs can hold the destination club over a barrel for th collateral needed.

After that there is the intangible of wanting to play for bulldogs no matter what.

Sending to preseason draft will be discussed upfront when he tells the club he is leaving.

Going to be an annoying 4/5 months

I don’t agree with your 2nd point, it may take Carr 2-3 years before he gets “his” team and gets players in who wanna win a premiership and can follow instructions.

Probably

Even if we know he is, start making counter demands now and shoot for the stars.

Get Koch on radio to say Butters is the best player in the game and would expect the biggest contract in AFL history and therefore we expect the best deal of all time in return

2 top 10 picks, another first rounder and an established first 22 young player gets us talking.

Simple, just respond with.any club mentioned their star player?

Dogs interested are they? Well im sure if Zac sis endnuo going we can talk about a player swap with Sam Darcy perhaps?

Ohh Collingwood in the frame? We will talk with Daicos....

That will shut them up or at least say it doesnt work that way.

We'd get mercilessly mocked for even considering a Daicos or a Darcy.

That's not a fair trade to them, the fair trade for them is us getting ****ed.

Well so far Jon Ralph has said it’ll be 4 1st’s, Cornes has said it’d need to be 4 1st’s and Cal Twomey has said 3 1sts from a top club won’t get it done so the media is at least getting on board with how much it’ll cost.

Think all those Dogs fans on the D&T thread saying a 1st and F1 will be enough are in for a shock.

They'll change their tune when their club is one of the ones bidding.

Cant see this getting done to a top club unless they bring in other clubs into it

Doggies first rounders are all going to be late?
Sanders would be a nice asset to throw in but his resigning?
How are either Geelong or Doggies going to offer anything to get this done?
For Dogs to get this done, they'll need to lose quality players to bring picks in. Not necessary that those players go to Port. But Sanders and Freijah are two. Do they throw Weightman as an option to another club given his injuries? Maybe one of Naughton or Croft? They have the assets, they just can't hope to keep them all and get Butters via crappy picks only

They need to atleast offer two top ten picks in those first round picks it cant just be late picks

Yeah they need to lose some assets to get Butters or bring in other clubs that will finish in the bottom ten to include more picks

I dont think we will be involved in it at all as we are in a similar postion with Bewick Rodan - Maybe and Mou next year and we also need to bring in talent this year

I’d avoid the main board with this logic.

Dogs fans are still using the Danger/Cameron trades from 5-10 years ago as accurate guidelines of what they’ll need to pay…..because nothing has changed in that time and the rules are the same.

Silly honestly

Hey we will give you picks 18 20 25 for Sam Darcy

Its going to cost them giving up good assets to get assets to trade with if they dont want to do that then dont trade for butters

I used Ed Richards as the example and never got a response.
Ive seen a few say two first rounders and some seconds but the problem with AFL fans in general is they see the word first rounder like its this massive valued thing

your trading someone whos guaranteed to be good a known quality for something that could be a good player/role player or a bust

tbh I can understand why dogs fans are the way they are after getting bent over by Geelong in the Smith trade.

The fact that player managers are able to undermine the ND/PSD threat if a deal can’t be done, makes me nervous.
Smith is a terrible example, they had a relationship breakdown and under no circumstances was he going to return to Dogs. There's a cost attached to that.

Agree that the buying clubs' fans should stop caring about first round picks and the value when they're getting a player like Butters in

He was also coming back from his ACL so he hadnt played for a year

They did get stitched over though but it was Geelong they get away with everything

Its a known quantity if they werent flag favorites already getting him in alone raises there floor

for me this does not get done unless they put up good assets for picks or involve those players in the butters trade itself i would even say that Butters is worth more then the Curnow and Trec deal given his age

I think Carr just needs to come out and say he won't be answering any more questions about Butters unless there is a change in circumstances or information.

Asking the same question every week without any new info is pointless and boring.

If there's a development, sure - ask away.
