AFL: Let's give 4 OR clubs a round 2 bye.

VFL: Let's only give 3 of the clubs a bye on the same weekend.

Guess which one we are.
Why can't they just line up the byes.

They usually do line them up, I prefer it when they don't, give the players on the edges of selection a chance to get match practice in

That week isn't the issue. It's when the AFL will be playing and the reserves aren't meaning guys pushing for selection don't play.

It only serves us now as we can get minutes into Stanley and Kolodjashnij.
Take that out and it makes no sense.

I'm thinking of going, and if so will be interested in checking out a few of our fringe players in the forward line
Already looking forward to seeing your extensive match report and your evaluations of each Cats player's individual performance being posted here before 11.00 p.m. Friday night.

Oh, and just remember it's OK if you don't get around to posting the evaluation of how the Bombers players all went until closer to midnight...

So with the big announcement about 3 services coming on board to broadcast the vfl they’re still not going to show this game?

How about this for a pre-emptive report:

  • Mellor is a little raw, but showed promise in his first official VFL game since being drafted
  • Polk has something about him and can't wait until he gets his chance in the seniors
  • Rhys was going Rhys things; he'll play seniors during the year but the biggest benefit of retaining him will be what he can teach our young rucks. Between Stanley & Ottens, we've got a couple of good mentors for Mitch, Toby and Jacob
  • Henry... Argh argh argh... At his best he's a clear class above this level but he's surely the most frustrating player on our list. He shows an ability to do things that we don't see from others & what you want in the seniors, but then he'll throw in the one handed marking attempts or a disappearing act to frustrate - needs to close the gap between what saw him drafted at pick 17, and the form which has seen him back in the VFL to start this season

Well played. I'll see your preemptive strikes and raise you a:

  • Kolo still looks a little ginger out there. Doesn't seem to be covering the ground all that well but effectively blanketed his opponent and used it OK going the other way. Hopefully better again for the run.
  • Driscoll seems like the quintessential Wells special. Very slight and raw. But totally willing to take the game on and run like a whippet when he gets the chance. Could be a while but there does seem to be something there.
  • Stevens is definitely covering the ground a little better now. And still shows strong qualities as a ball-winner in close. Released teammates into space by absorbing pressure and then getting the hands free to hit a Geelong player on the outside. Defensive running and spread still looks questionable, though.
  • Bews did Jed things throughout. Dashed away from opponents with the ball tucked under the arm and also killed some key contests with a strong defensive fist. Managed to hit an OOF off each foot in this game so that certainly made for something of a collector's item on the night.
  • Wiltshire certainly has some zip. But he doesn't always get to the right areas and can also look a little timid in and around the contest. Got on the end of a couple and finished them cleanly enough. You'd want to see more of him finding his own ball if he's going to have any chance of making a real AFL career, though.
And given we've all heard about the dangers of playing the game in your head before the ball is bounced, I'm probably best to stop there...

Call the game off, we have what we need already.

Based on that bowes needs a fitness run, henry is probably getting dropped next week and Clark is safe in the afl side for now.
