l reckon every side would have thought they could push for the eight at the start of this season if things went their way.
I also reckon every club, with the possible exception of Adelaide, would think that they could have a list capable of challenging for finals next year if they handle their recruiting/trading well over summer.

The competition is fairly even right now.
I agree the comp is mostly even

if your a sensible Dons supporter

you pencil this in as a loss every single year not matter where its played and whose in and whose out

Rule of thumb
  • Victorian Club: Not unless you are 6 games clear on the ladder and they have 20 players on the injury list
  • Interstate Club (away): Never
  • Interstate Club (home): Gold Coast (always) Everyone else only if you are in the top 8

2023 both times.

We were coming off a physical beating from Hawthorn the second one and some clown started posting NSFW images of what Geelong was going to do to us, and I realised they feared us.

Never sure with the Hawks, they are our bogey side, even in flag years.

Why would we fear Collingwood, given the fact we've had the wood over them when it matters?

Oddly, Cripps/Voss era Carlton match up well against Geelong and have a good record. I suspect it is because of Chris Scott's 'we just play our way' philosophy - Carlton are easy to game plan against, so we perform disproportionately well against teams that don't. We also generally play them at the MCG (although we did beat them at KP as well the last time we were there) and it's often not a 'big' game for them.

We have won 2 of the last 3, and the third we should have won (had 66 inside 50s to 46 and kicked 15.15, which isn't often a losing scoreline).

I expected to win last year and we did, despite Geelong being a better team overall. I don't think 2026 Carlton have much chance though, as we have dropped off further again.

I thought we were primed for the upset of the year.

The game before we beat Hawthorn. That cost them a finals place. The game after we beat Poort. That cost them a finals place as well.

On reflection that game was the one where we should have committed 100% to a rebuild.

More interestingly, when did we fully expect to lose?

Well, round 0 surprised none of us I expect. A little bit of PTSD after the Granny (which like quite a few Cat fans I'd feared we'd lose ... you don't give a sucker an even break, let along Brissy a second crack at you within three weeks).
