2. First-round presence rule

To stop clubs giving away too many top picks:

  1. Every club must use at least two first-round selections within a rolling multi-year window (historically four years; extended as future trading expanded).
  2. If a club would fall below this requirement, they cannot trade away another future first-round pick until the rule is satisfied.

Purpose: prevent clubs from permanently trading away early talent and damaging competitive balance.
There must be allowances to the first-round presence rule though given what we saw with the Charlie Curnow trade. Sydney traded out their first round selections in 2025 + 2026 (F1) + 2027 (FF1) which would rule out the ability to take 2 picks in a 4-year window. Or maybe the window was extended when they allowed trading picks a further year ahead.

The AFL will give them a time limit to bring in a first. Sydney probably have until end of 2027 trade period to get a first. Essendon in 2020 was allowed to trade firsts as long as they ended up with at least 2 firsts by the trade deadline.

But what happens if they just don’t? I wonder if these rules are actually written down somewhere or if the AFL prefers to just make it up as they go.

Draft contention?
Played a lot of school footy over the last few years
Would be rookie at best st this stage
Though I don't watch a lot of interest ressie stuff

I recon we need to get all of The Bont/Sam/Will/Ed on the stud farm.
The FS rule is the best in AFL
Bont needs a talking to, first one off the rack is a daughter, which of course is fine, but it just delays our plans 😜

If only the Saints had used their Disco for good instead of one night stands….
Bastard offspring don’t count?
Or will we see the AFL face a legal challenge backed up by DNA evidence of paternity?

And what about adopted kids? Are they eligible if their foster Mum or Dad played 100 games?

I think no one knows who fathered who from those days DW.

But I do find it humorous that we could never get a tall KPP so it seems we started a breeding program and Darce took it next level 😁

For us it might be, but teams like the Saints won't stop until that is almost or id taken away
Need to be careful the Saints. One day they might have some talented Father/Sons and due to their short term thinking they will pay an absolute premium, if they get them at all. What an own goal.

Both Khaled El Souki and Kobe Williams had big games today in the coates talent league 👀

I think we still have access to williams? As do hawthorn

Both us and Hawthorn still have access to Williams so he'd have to choose to be nominated by us or the Hawks in order to have priority access.
