Supporters may have valid reasons to not be there, the only ones you can call piss weak are those who did not go as they thought we would be thrashed.

I was there and yes watching some of our younger players step up was great
We (the club / marketing team etc) have failed to capitalise on a period of relative success. Its just disappointing when you turn up and there are whole swathes of interstate fans and the home crowd doesn't make an effort.

I don't get the Dolan selection criticism. He's been more than good up til tonight, yes he had an absolute mare but he deserved selection.

Coffield apart from the horrible turn over in the 3rd was 20x better than gardner.

Same vdm was great until he did a hammy. Clearly some people will never be happy no matter who we select.
I don’t think I’ve seen Dolan play a good game so I’m not sure what you have been watching but I really don’t see it with him yet and think he should be in the VFL. Clearly not ready yet

The three last picked blokes in the team - Dolan, Gallagher and Emmett - were our three weakest players, wouldn't be getting a game if we had Freo's injury list, and that's the game.

And I just feel for Vandermeer. He was playing well.

Unfortunately years of awful coaching and list management (these being intertwined) have ruined Bont’s prime.

He’s given too much to have all this around him.

I just think the club is comfortable as long as there’s excuses to be found. Not sure about celebrating another honourable loss after the

The ruck and KPD situations are unforgivable. But it’s what happens when you don’t let the bakers bake, as Dalrymple put it.
stop telling it as it is
the perennial losers and those who relish celebrating honorable defeats
will attack you
drop you dacks and take one for the team like Norm

The main 2 for me are Emmett and Davidson who are yet to have a decent game this year and would think most are the same
Im done with Davidson... to be playing on a wing with the amount of game time he has is deplorable. He lacks polish and certainly lacks hardness. Jacques could play that role for sure, he is more damaging by fault and a smarter footballer. Could be more of a weapon offensively.

It's clear that English, Bont, Richards and Naughton are playing through a lack of pain, which is why the four of them had better first halves than second halves.

Poor English who was clearly battling and playing through pain and basically couldn't even get the power in this legs to jump in the last quarter, and was struggling to get back to the goal line to defend Freo's set shots. He was playing probably a week before he was fully fit and probably should have been playing but he just had to for service of the team because we don't really have any other good ruck options. I hope nobody questions his competitiveness and toughness ever again.

Anybody still questioning the selection of Lewis?

He is clearly not any sort of answer in the medium to long term.

But the reality is that we'd be forced to play one or more of Croft, Emmett, Darcy or Walker or an unnamed ruck alt as a second tall. I don't even want to contemplate what we'd have to do if Naughton has to miss any games...
he doesn't have the tank yet. cost of a couple of times as couldn't lead up tot he ball as he was gassed. My only concern is if your going to mouth of, kick goals not points

Injuries aside.

Those turnovers coming out of defence has been an issue all year, even in the wins. Cannot generate attack or protect the defence if we keep taking stupid short kick options out of defence.

Also a couple of old issues have resurfaced. Teams walking it out of the middle too easily. And allowing teams to get a goal instantly after we score one. Need to hold ground and string a few together.

Fair enough roy boy U r a reasoned poster. I haven't minded him last few weeks getting to right positions and taking his opporunties. He was horrible tonight, some shocking game changing moments.

To those whinging about our attendance last night, to be fair it's been a fairly soul destroying three weeks. Proper gut wrenching. Happy to cut some slack.

All up it was a significant improvement on the last 3 weeks and possibly a step forward.

As I said in the selection thread, not what I would have done but still an improvement.

Those complaining that Smith is only a ruckman, yes and with 5 on the bench Smith at least being competetive and also allowing English to occasionally push forward most likely would have been the difference. I thought so as did a past player or too I spoke to after the game.

Emmett is clearly not ready.

How both Dolan and Davidson got a game before Baker is a bit of a mystery and was probably costly.

The whipping boys and Coffield more than showed with the current outs they are ahead of their rivals still left.

Jones continued to show great improvement, we just need his body to hold up. Buss whilst not being a superstar or even at the level of his pick is a solid AFL player...

Hopefully our match committee learn, make a few more adjustments and we will be back on track

Getting to the right positions doesn't mean much when you're only getting 7 touches and not having a single score involvement with any of them though - the proof is in the pudding

Davidson was poor, but he stays in our team without the troops and that Gallagher and Dolan were worse.

He seems like a smart and skilful player but I'm not sure that's enough when he doesn't look particularly quick, strong or fit.

On what basis? Gallagher had double the possessions and whilst poor had less time on ground

Not sure which part of my post you didn't read. I said he was horrendous tonight, I was referring to previous weeks. Are you going to write a 400 word essay on why gardner should have been selected again?

Davidson laid 5 tackles and still had 3 score involvements. He uses the ball terribly and is awful in decision making but he still does a role on the fat side of the ground when he has to cover a lot of ground using stamina. Whatever determination they used to call it an effective disposal, at least all 7 of Davidson's disposals were effective.

Gallagher missed two shots on goal, only had 5 total pressure acts, four ineffective touches. Got on the end of a few but didn't to much and seemed to float around with a bit of an undefined role compared to Davidson.

Anyway, we're splitting hairs on who played the worse game. With Vandermeer out injured again and presumably Baker will come straight back in for him, if we drop one we'd have to either bring in Hynes, or bring in a defender we're not picking yet (Gardner/Cleary/Carmichael) to be able to drop the other. So one will keep his spot, I'm not going to lose sleep out of which of Hynes, Gallagher or Davidson we're picking. Without all our injures we'd be picking none of them.
