i cant understand how your average afl and wb supporter is so strong on players and criticism of them
and gives a complete pass to coaches and coaching staff after repeated unacceptable decisions and performance
The truly only thing you can control is who plays in what position and when

here in the land of pro sports where individual players cost more than afl footy teams
Luke Bevo Beveridge would be coaching in the third tier years ago

And there would be huge pressure on the club to rectify this unacceptable situation from the supporter base

Athenian - you write well this is spot on. I'm sure Luke is a great bloke and does his best . However his performance hasn't been good enough to warrant his tenure. Not his fault though ,the individuals who renewed his contract after the 2023 trepidation game made a poor decision.Those that renewed last year when we were ninth were bordering on incompetent.

Vandermeer getting hurt was significant. The inclusion of him and Artie was a key point of difference to recent weeks with their ability to break lines.

Happy with the effort but now feels like one that got away, mostly due to dumb mistakes in the 3rd and their midfield getting well on top around the same time.

Think that English's lack of match condition probably played a part in that. Also Emmett tries manfully but his body isn't up to it yet.

Yep if Smith Jaques and Baker weren’t playing Southport tomorrow and were also injured you could make said argument

They’re not and given the roles the 3 he named played don’t see how the heat isn’t on the MC for selecting 3 players horribly out of form and having no impact on games

I don’t see Smith as a second ruck, he doesn’t have the agility up forward of Croft but yes would be a better option than Emmett in competing in ruck but would have been blown away around the ground.

Timmy was obviously underdone hopefully he pulls up ok and runs game out better next week

I think last year and most years under Bevo has showed our true level. Without injuries we would be around midtable. Just about the worst place to be. Not good enough to contend but not bad enough to be bringing in the best young talent and I think that's starting to show. Apart from Darcy who should be a star and Sanders who will be a solid B grade player I'm not convinced any of other young players will get to the level of players like Richards, Naughton, English and Dale before they start dropping off in a few years time

Lobb is really our only option as a back up ruck - hopefully we can get another 2 seasons out of him. Quite happy with Coffield and Busslinger, their kicking is excellent, it’s noticeable how better we were exiting defence this week.

Entertaining game of football and we were highly competititve. A return to form for a few senior players and most of the whipping boys played well too.

Coffield isn't a kpp but he adds more to the team than Gardner does.
Buss was pretty good except a brief period when Freo was dominant in the midfield.

Disappointed we couldn't get the win but we showed some heart.

Josh Dolan is highly rated within the club, but needs a rest. He looked exhausted, struggling to keep up in the last quarter.
Emmett is a baby. This experience will do him good in the long run, but he needs VFL time to develop.
Sellwood has a fair bit of leadership about him. Gotta love how he gets under opposition skins. Lewis is pretty good at that, too. We need more mongrel!
Davidson has the second year blues. Strongly believe he’ll be okay.

On Thursday night the rucks got 15 frees (Reeves 5, Cameron 5, Meek 3, Steene 2). Albeit not all were ruck infringements but quite a lot were, so I don't think any of the rucks understand the rules either

On the plus side, Arty seems to have cemented his spot as just the small fwd we're looking for and VDM had a very good game (seemed to be playing higher up the ground, almost a wing, which suited his style better).

Probably at least as good or better than expected but our lack of depth really showed out the further the game went. When any team carries 3 or 4 who are not up to the standard they struggle. Don't want to read the words 'honourable loss' because that game was winnable despite the personnel not available. Bolton and particularly Jackson were a class above and drove their momentum.

Getting Butters in is a must need another quality mid that is defensively minded but has some speed. Other than Richards we lack some speed across the ground in the midfield. Try and limit the oppo running out the front of the contest at pace and unhindered
