Well, we're going to need bad Brisbane to show up to win this one. The issue is, you don't often see bad Brisbane against good sides. They won't phone in a half against Geelong like they did against Carlton.

Hoping we can keep the margin within 3 goals and make it a contest. Recent Geelong teams don't tend to play well up north though.

will be a repeat of this fixture last year, Geelong to get a handy lead early in the wet only for Brisbane to cheat and change the weather settings and run away with it in the 2nd half

Cats flying at the moment. Going to be a big task to overcome. Hopefully we can be competitive.
Flying? We just got destroyed by a mediocre Port team.

Me too, although I was pretty certain we'd ambush them in the first one. Then our luck ran out and the quirk of a finals system with mulligans got in the way.

It's more so the mental edge they now have on us. Bit like us and the Western Bulldogs. No matter how good they are, we seem to always have their measure.

They certainly have it on the supporters. :(

There's a thread out there somewhere about 'When Did You Last Feel Confident You'd Beat Geelong" or something like that.

The thought of playing Brisbane, even the QF I thought we'd win, just gives me a headache.

The fact is that Brisbane have had our number since they got Washcroft and Dunkley into their now over-powered midfield for the 2023 season. They've won 5 of the last 7 head to head games. Their record against most decent teams over that period is stellar, to be fair. Only an Ashcroft injury in 2023 stopped them coming into this season as 3peaters.

We can't beat them in finals. They are our kryptonite.

Go back five years and they were perennial chokers come finals time. Star-studded line up and would often bottle games. Now they just toy with Geelong for two or three quarters before going beastmode through the middle of the ground and it's game over in the space of 10 minutes.

Brisbane don't care if they lose this week.
They don't even bother making top four anymore. They're just waiting for September to roll around.
Bit similar to OKC in the NBA. So much more talented than the next best.

He's saying it's going to happen again in 2026, but with our win coming this weekend.

Oh I see. Well, no. I don't think it plays out like that necessarily. The vague trends of history as much as anything says that if we met again in a GF we'd win; that's just how sport goes.

Silly Tilly.

Can we get back to talking footy guys. And not about some redundant argument over outside life.

And footy isn't linear and failure before success doesn't necessarily equate to 'choking'. Hawthorn became successful largely by seeing what our forwards did to Schoenmakers... So they got Lake.

Brisbane fell short and then recruited some players to bridge the gap, and the next club that falls just short will try and do the same.

In any case; travelling on a 5 day break will be difficult but keen to see how it goes given Fox, Ch9 and Ch7 have spoken about the NM and Pies games having a forward handball game that Sydney have had all season aimed at beating Brisbane. Keen to see if we adopt it, and if it works if we do.

They did significantly strengthen their list since 2022. Forward line, midfield and defence all have more talent and depth. Plus the younger players had banked some serious finals experience (6+ games) which they have built on with confidence boosting wins over the past 2 finals campaigns. Momentum is a hell of a thing in football.

Despite that we pushed them all the way in one final and beat them in another - but the QF winner/GF rematch curse struck as it often has over the years. As great as it was to beat them in week 1 last year, we played our hand and they adjusted. How many team have they even lost to twice in a row over the past 3 years?

They will be strong favourites for the flag until someone knocks them off when it counts and rightly so. 6 teams failed 2024-2025. A team can always have a bad day though.

Brisbane will flex their muscles against another contender here.

Grand final times two.
I mean I think they will win but I don’t think they will beat us by 100.
