Just chiming in with my yearly (and I think this makes 6??? years??) 'if Seb Ross is anywhere near the midfield we have a hard ceiling as a middling team' post.
I am so proud of the strides our club is taken toward a new era. new talent, better gameplan and we're in pretty much every game.
Crouch being out made the decision around our midfield fairly simple in the short term...but the question around Steele is still there.
Can he lead us in the way we...
I'm not worried about where we finish now. Anywhere, anytime.
Heck - GIVE US the final on the road. How good is that experience for our younger guys? Our more senior guys too.
King is built for finals, he could truly erupt.
To be honest, we can't really worry about other games outside our control.
Yes, the afl stuffed up. Syndey choked hard in the last quarter and it should never have come down to that.
Let's go to Brisbane next week and finish the job!
After everything...and I've been very critical of the last 10 weeks...(mainly because, you know - I've watched us play and it's clear as day we're off the pace for large chunks of the game) we have 10 wins.
So excited to see what we do in the off-season. We should be looking to off load as much...
I might rate King waaaaay too high but to me it really starts with him after our midfield.
Our midfield is still the biggest concern. What do we do going into 2024? I know that it can't be Crouch, Steele and Ross again.
You know both things can be true.
Ross and co will have the off season to start shaping the list and figuring out how we progress moving forward. This isn't a finished product.
But our effort yesterday was not good enough, don't get it twisted. Eagles may have had to respond, it may have been...
He's not better than King who is a generational forward.
But he should be playing in the midfield full time and he's earned it. He's got incredible talent.
I never said he shouldn't keep his spot. But I'm sorry, we get absolutely slammed out of the midfield every week.
I don't really think raw numbers mean that much when he knows how to accumulate the football - that's not the issue. And I agree he's been our best midfielder, but we need him to be...
Having said that.
King needs to be targeted more. He's getting more action at ground level.
Steele needs to be dropped and/or rested. Seb the same. Crouch on notice.
Higgins has been good this year, was poor today but that's him. That's Butler. Up and down.
Midfield is getting smashed and...
We looked flat, and we looked disinterested.
We are 7-4. We can match it with the best, we just need to get our heads screwed on after the bye...
Geez some of you are so quick to hammer us. I back us to find our footing in the second half and recapture our first month of form.
I agree, we couldn't get over the line despite getting as close as anyone.
I still maintain 04/05 were as good as an opportunity too....
3 games in, it looks good - but no point in getting carried away because there's a long long way to go!
It's not the same, (I know it's been echoed in this thread already but just so it's clear) 8-3 last year was a mirage.
We won in patches of footy and some great King performances. We were never a well coached side and Ratten while he definitely gave it his best, wasn't able to get us playing...
Will take a few weeks to get up to speed with players returning (obviously MK the big IN who shapes our entire attacking eco system) - but I'm so IN on this new coaching group and team. Finals are on the cards, and I reckon we make it.
