The Journey of the Sorceror by the Eagles. Better known as the theme from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. (RIP, Douglas Adams :( ) The first movement from Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells ain't bad either.

Regrets, I've had a few (bands I never saw)

I turned up to a Clouds' gig at Adelaide Unibar to find the show was sold out. Furthermore, it was the "farewell tour" and was the last chance I'd ever get to see them :( I missed the The The (*) tour in '89 because I was a poor student, near skint, and had no way to get there or home - none...

    Favourite David Bowie Album??

"Heroes" for me. Brian Eno is the best thing that ever happened to David Bowie. "Ziggy Stardust ..." in second place - full of classic songs, that one.

    Rockbitch

Yes - the "golden condom award". The doco showed the "lead bitch" tossing it into the crowd - and the lucky punter who caught it (a long-haired metallica-tshirt-clad wannabe) getting dragged up onstage, and then backstage by a couple of the band. Mind you, those who didn't catch the condom...

    Rockbitch

Anyone else just see this doco on SBS? I'd heard of the band before, thanks to their web page once being nominated as Cruel Site Of The Day - so I tuned in. Bizarre... A collection of young lesbian and bisexual women, who all practice pagan sex rituals, live on a free sex commune, and...

    Favourite Album Covers

You are referring to the pic of the young lady taking a crap on the playing card at the bottom of the picture. I only know that 'coz I have that album myself. Great album. My faves, for aesthetic value and/or humour, include: The above is Roger Waters' "The Pros and...

    Favourite "The Cure" Song

In order of preference: 1. A Forest 2. Killing An Arab 3. Primary 4. Burn (from The Crow soundtrack) 5. Boys Don't Cry 6. In Between Days

    Stories Behind Songs

Ahh, books as inspiration: The Cure's "Killing an Arab" was inspired by Albert Camus' "L'Etranger" ("The Outsider"). Talk Talk's "Such A Shame" was allegedly inspired by Luke Rhinehart's "The Dice Man".

    U.K vs U.S.A

Good comment. There were eras when either country would have dominated. Myself, being a fan of the new romantic era, would have to pick the UK. By the mid-eighties, however, the quality of pop music coming out of Oz was better than anything from overseas, I reckon.

    Pop songs with French lyrics

OK kids, here's a challenge for yers: Name me some pop songs that have charted and/or received airplay in English-speaking countries, having at least one line of French in the lyrics. Examples (excuse my '80s bias): Ça Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand Twist À St. Tropez - Telex Fade To...

    The album that killed credibility

You mean, it was garbage? :D Myself, I thought Alice Cooper's "Trash" was aptly named. 'twas sad to hear the world's premier theatrical shock-rocker descend to the level of bad 1980s metal. Didn't put me off his work though - I just stick to "Killer" and "Welcome To My Nightmare"

Greatest movie soundtracks of all time

Heck, I forgot one - the best of the lot: THE HUNGER full of moody, evocative classical pieces: Ravel's "Le Gibet", part of a Schubert Piano Trio, some Bach partitas for solo violin... A lesbian love scene between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve set to the Flower Duet from...

Crap CD's that you bought just because you liked one song

Kim Salmon and the Surrealists: Essence. Bought it for the cover of The Silver Apples' "A Pox On You". The rest of the album varies between so-so and boring. Russ Ballard's "Voices", for the title track. Have since chucked it away, the rest of it was that bad.

Greatest movie soundtracks of all time

Dogs In Space - late seventies Melbourne Punk with Iggy Pop and Brian Eno for good measure Pretty in Pink - the definitive '80s soundtrack Love Serenade - sultry seventies soul 1984 - not really a soundtrak, since only a few snippets were actually used in the movie - but this is by far...

Another one: Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust Done much in the same vein as Bowie's original version. I still rate Bowie's as better, but Bauhaus' version is not bad at all.

    Most Powerful Song?

Good pick. Also: Marianne Faithfull - Why'd Ya Do It? Iggy Pop - The Endless Sea - used to great effect in "Dogs In Space"

I thought Siouxsie did a decent version of "Dear Prudence", though not a patch on the original. Idea for another of these interminable Beatles threads: Best cover of a Beatles song :D
