Did We Get The Pick Right?

But we have big inside mids in McAuliffe and Smillie. I'd rather see a Prestia replacement with speed and natural ball winning ability. I think TT and Hopper will go by the wayside, I think in a year or two they will be holding us back, they are only going to get slower which kills us against the good sides.

Not sure McAuliffe is that sort of inside mid. And I'd like Smillie to be getting a lot of 2nd ball - his skills are great. Playing him purely inside would be a waste IMHO.

But if I was doing the drafting I would be going for Sharp (A grade inside mid who, great handball, poor kick, but big game player who provides immense pressure). If he's not available looking for a trade or a later pick. Decent inside mids are almost always available for a reasonable cost. SO go for the elite, or a cheap B(+) grader who fills the need.

I think McAuliffe's natural game is inside outside, like most good inside mids are, bar the elite handballer's like Liberatore.

Most sides have mids who do both, but our inside mids don't spread well due to lack of speed, and when they do their kicking doesn't hurt. MacAuliffe is playing more outside because TT and Hopper can only play inside and he's got pace and a good kick. Smillie will probably do both when up and running as well. He has very good skills as you say but at his size it would be a waste not to have him playing inide/outside.

The interesting one is Hotton. Watching him in the VFL, he is tries to shark the ruck tap like a proper mid. I think that is what he will be maybe sooner than we think. He is similar to Shai but different because Bolton rarely went under the ruckman's feet, preferring the spillage or outlet handpass. Of course there is Lalor who is a bit of everything.

Sharp might be the player we choose, but his skills are just average is the general consensus, so we have a few of them. Duursma is the top end talent that might be hard to go past.

We'll get whoever is left over.

I pretty much agree with what you've said about our mids. But I think that we need some inside grunt to free up our most dangerous new draftees. However, I pretty much reckon that unless we can get that A grader (Sharp) then we go for the players who can move the ball best - speed and skill. Unless CDT falls, in which case he is probably worth the risk for the possible upside.

Good players will be available for us. But it is one of the most unexciting drafts I can remember - so far anyway.

Then academy fed sides won't mind the draft. Those sides don't have a pick inside the top 7, but will pick the teeth out of the top 2-5.

Still won't get a rising star nom. I thought he was good. The main thing for Trainor was to get through the year and take some contact and not get too shaken by it.

It was a risky pick but so far the goal has been achieved. I still get nervous when he takes a hit but he's taken a few high knocks and got right back up.

He definitely plays for free kicks too much and I hope we coach it out of him gradually before it becomes irreparable.
Overall enjoyed his game. Just keep pumping games into him, it's going to be beneficial sooner rather than later.

Hopefully he gets a nomination for the Rising Star this week for reward for consistency given we won this week.

Still had a solid game. 16 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 6 score involvements.
This is long overdue, but it’s likely to be overlooked.

Surprised Cooper Harvey didn't get it after 4.2 from 13 disposals
campaigner is lucky he has a spot on a list after the shit he pulled when he was younger
