Not far off.

Stocker is classier but Brayshaw's aerobic capacity is far superior. Let's see what Russell can do.

I agree with this comparison too.

Stocker is hard at it and can win his own ball, but I reckon the bulk of the grunt work will be done by Cripps and Kennedy.

Russell will turn Stocker into an endurance beast like Brayshaw.

Yet so different

Cripps is massive at the clearances

Diesel was so underrated by foot
He sure was.

I remember the time out at Waverley park when he had the ball at the end of a quarter. The umps were having a bad day and Diesel turned around and drilled the ball towards the umpire and nearly taking his head off in the process..

Recruiters say, that if a player doesn't remind them of an existing/past player, they probably won't make it

Boekhorst reminded me of a volleyball player...

This bloke has “The Dominator mk2” written all over him

Give the kid a break we got him to put him through the system and develop him a year earlier than a 2019 draftee. First half of season is surely going to be in Northern Blues although he looks good on the training track.

Was brilliant either side with his passes.[/Q

Brilliant footy IQ, read game beautifully, nice kick to position and loved a goal potent handballer too.
Greg Williams was a great footballer, should have been a triple Browlow medalists.

I rekon hes more luke parker than brayshaw

From my limited on-screen viewing, that's the one I see, at least at this stage.

Think there's a good chance he starts his career as a fwd-mid, with only the occasional mid/on-ball rotation until he builds his tank. I could see him spending his first couple of years in that Robbie Gray/Petracca/Ziebel kind of role and then graduating to full time midfield as Murph & Ed approach the end.

If he becomes that kind of explosive/dynamic fwd-capable midfielder (along with Dow & hopefully DC) that will be great for our team balance as well. Gives a good spread of player types alongside the big bastards in Cripps, Kennedy & Setterfield, the damaging smaller zippy types in Fisher & Samo (Polson?) and running beasts O'Brien & Walsh who accumulate & distribute.

My 5 cents on Liam

Another one who has surprised me once he got into the AFL system. Like Dow & Walsh even better than I thought.

Can't really compare him to anyone. My comments from seeing him at training and in some match sims

Tough and works hard inside but can spread
Has very good leg speed from contest
Excellent both sides of the body with foot and by hand
Will find a lot of it and very creative.
Doesn't go to ground easily or at all
Pure midfielder that will step up fairly quickly
Very hard trainer and great attitude

Who would you prefer I say he reminds me of ?
Just my opinion, doesn't mean its right or wrong.

That's an observation and not simply an opinion. Much more valuable.

Where do we see Stocker fitting into the main team, if the centre square is closed off to him and if Cripps, Kennedy, Setterfield and co and doing what we all expect them to be doing?

I know people will say that a player will only come into the fold when ready, but given we openly rated Stocker at #6 and given most top ten picks have early starts to the year, could there be just a little pressure for us to display Stocker sooner than later? (Repeat the first part of this sentence)

Of course there will be injuries along the way, but it will be interesting to see if and when Stocker does see some senior action this year.

With Stocker, we clearly rate him very highly, say we did draft him at 6 where we rated him, I think a lot more would be expecting him to play.

Not too many young guys go well in their first year or two but the ones who do generally have some pace and a mature body which he has. I think because he has good skills and is a good kick we will be looking for a reason to play him as well. I think he's a very good chance to play early. Would not be surprised if we see that vacant spot left by Fasolo as an opportunity to fit him in. Of course he will have to show something in the preseason games.

I'm certainly keen to see him play, I think if he can provide something to our forward line he's a very good chance for round 1. Fairly certain he will play senior footy this season.

^^^Not sure we’ll be pressured to play Stocker until warranted - barring an injury injury list resembling that of 2018. A few ahead of him jostling for the midfield/forward rotations (Murphy, LOB, Setters, Kennedy, SPS, Fisher, Dow, Walsh...JSOS?, Gibbons?, DC?, Polson?).

See how the (late starting) VFL performances go unless he burns up the track/match sim/JLT prior.

Is it too much to ask for some of our midfielders to start dominating VFL level?

I don't really care who it is - just want to feel like there's pressure on the senior players to perform this year, instead of playing self-preservation because everybody else is injured or ordinary.

Time for us to move away from "getting games into young players" and start selecting based on performance alone. Get Liam in the VFL and tell him if he wants to play seniors he needs to be getting 25 touches and 5 tackles a game for a few weeks first.
