Greetings to BH by the way (I lived there as a kid a LONG time ago). You must all be very proud of Tex. Sorry to hear the club didn't communicate with him today (hopefully Craigy will have a word with him sometime).

Would he be the youngest player in the AFL (18 in April)? Would he be the youngest KPP in AFL history?

I believe he's the 3rd youngest player in the AFL this year. Nowhere near the youngest in AFL history (Simon Madden debuted at 16 years of age, to name but one).

The more the years go by the older a player has to be to enter the AFL system, so I'm sure there have been younger KPP in history. However, I'm pretty sure he's the youngest player currently on an AFL list. His 18th birthday was only a couple of days before the cut off.

EDIT: I just saw that he's April 25...I thought he was April 29 for some reason...there's probably younger in that case.

Anyone know the rules regarding age criteria to be drafted these days ???
For the past few years the latest a player can be born but still nominate for the draft is April 30. So most players drafted last year were born in 1989, but there was a scattering of players born before April 30, 1990. However, this year will be the last draft like that.

From the 2009 Draft all the cut off is December 31, so it will literally be based on the year the player is born ie. next year will be all kids born 1991 or earlier (of course, a few of the Jan-April 1991 kids will have already been taken in the 2008 Draft).

Yeah, but these are the inconsistent efforts the club is talking about. I mean, look at that! Bloody Mark Holden is taking a contested grab three deep on him and Bock. Gotta be better than that!

Thanks mate ... legend :thumbsu:

The question was about youngest KPP to play AFL.

Yeah, I know - I was kind of replying to the Tim Watson query as well.

Robert Walls was 16 and played full forward in his first game (kicked a goal with his first kick).

There's a bunch of younger debut guys who I've never heard of (most playing pre 1950), so some of them may have been KPP's.

Quick (non-comprehensive) scan of some other young debut KPP's (in chronological debut age order)

Pert 17
Lockett 17
Lloyd 17
Grant 17
Longmire 17
Leppitsch 17
Fletcher 17
Silvagni 17
Richardson 18
Franklin 18
Ottens 18
Neitz 18
Jakovich 18
Roughead 18
Pavlich 18
Tredrea 18
Lucas 18

At a guess, I'd say the average would be around the 19/20 mark?

Thanks. A bit of talent in that list. I guess it's not his age that's holding him back then. Apart from Roughie and Buddy, I can't remember any KPPs in the last few years. Maybe it's been mostly midfielders going as the early draft picks in that period.

I saw Taylor play for Norwood yesterday live for the first time in a few weeks.

He will be a star. Great hands, compsure, confidence and a thumping kick. Kicked 3, handed out 4-5.

Could be Pavlich level good. Long way to go, but....

2 goals for Norwood today. Have to agree with whats said about his pressure around the ball (chasing/tackling etc needs a bit of work) but definitely positive signs from the young kid!

From all reports not really the ideal conditions for a tall forward, bit of a wet weather slog wasn't it?

IMO the decision to hold Taylor back this year was a very courageous decision, however the right one

Taylor has blossomed in the SANFL and will be heading into his 2ndpre-season full of confidence

Hopefully the lad can stack on 5kg's over the summer and round 1 we should see young Tex deep in the crows forward line
