IMO the decision to hold Taylor back this year was a very courageous decision, however the right one

Taylor has blossomed in the SANFL and will be heading into his 2ndpre-season full of confidence

Hopefully the lad can stack on 5kg's over the summer and round 1 we should see young Tex deep in the crows forward line

Disagree completely.

We gifted games to Dangerfield, Jacky & Sellar to give them a taste of AFL Football; Walker actually deserved a call-up, and didn't get one.

Regardless, it's bloody exciting to watch him play - if he wasn't a scholarship player, he would've probably been top 5 in this years draft.

Reminds me of young Fergus Watts turning it on in the SANFL. What a gun he turned out to be.

you didn't really come in here just to post that nonsense...did you?

As much as he's a douche I can see the parallels between Walker's game on Sunday and Watts' game a few years back against North.

Having said that, Adelaide is the closest AFL club to home for Taylor!

I can't myself. Taylor made a fair few for himself yesterday with smart, instinctive football.

Fergus got absolutely spoonfed by a rampant midfield.

I liked Fergus and thought he could've been an ok player at AFL level before his ankle troubles. Even with the lack of pace. Was pretty dissappointed when he left. Probably could have gotten more of a go.

But he never went close in a couple of years to what Taylor has produced on such a consistent basis this year alone.

Just worlds apart.

A stupid post by a stupid troll.

He's going to be brilliant.

I was taking the piss.
Walker looks the goods, however don't get ahead of yourselves. He hasn't played in the AFL yet.

There is one thing thats different though!

Watts kicked 10 out of nowhere. I think his highest goal scoring game before that final was with 3 goals.

Walker has played at a pretty high level this year. An 18 year old who has kicked 50 odd goals in his debut season. He has previously kicked big bags in games, including a 9 goal performance.

I think Walker has proven in his first SANFL season that his game on the weekend was not a one off. He showed some pretty impressive form during the year. Fergus as never been as big a goal scoring threat as Walker has consistently been this year.

i think u forgot another good thing about him not playing afl this year. I will be able to get him in my dream team at a cheap price:D.

But seriously i think it was good that he did not play because i dont think he had enough weight on him. With this pre season coming up lets hope he puts on some weight and dominates the forward line for us

Anyone that has seen Taylor Walker play throughout the year would know he is NOTHING at all like Fergus Watts. The way he can turn opponents inside out and get a steady shot on goal and pump it through the middle is a true sign of a great forward.

I’m no Buddy Franklin: Walker 15 Sep 08 @ 12:45pm by Reece Homfray

Taylor Walker on Sunday.
THERE was one name on everyone’s lips at Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon - Taylor Walker.
The 18-year-old Norwood forward put on a show in front of 15,000 fans to not only lead the Redlegs to a famous win over Port Adelaide, but stamp himself a big-game performer.
His seven goals, earned in the air and at ground level, had shades of Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin who kicked eight goals in the AFL finals the week before.
But those comparisons don’t sit well with Crows-listed Walker who is yet to make his AFL debut.
``I’m nowhere near him,’’ he said.
``I don’t think anyone should be comparing me to him I’m a fair way off Buddy Franklin.’’
All the same, Walker had everyone talking and will have made Crows selectors take notice.
``You always set yourself for a big game, but I didn’t expect seven goals. So I’m pretty happy individually, but even better to come off with a win,’’ he said.
Walker said speculation about his AFL debut had not worried him during the year, instead he focused on playing consistent football at The Parade.
``They’ve (Norwood) welcomed me with open arms. I can’t have it any other way, I wanted to go to the ‘Legs and I’m just thankful to be there,’’ he said.
``We’ve got a good solid forward line, (Jamie) Vlatko and (Sam) Rowe take the load of some of us, and even with the little guys (Simon) Phillips and (Josh) Donohue, they can get down and crumb the ball when it hits the ground.’’
Norwood boss Dominic Shepley said Walker had been a tremendous boost to the club this season.
`` We knew were going to have Taylor for the year and we’re going to claim him anyway because we had our eye on Taylor a long time ago,’’ Shepley said.
``We used to send Bowny (Stuart Bown) back to Broken Hill to make sure he knew all about Norwood so we’re pleased to have him a part of our club.’’

You gotta love almost everything about the lad.

In fairness to Fergus Watts, he would of been a star forward. But he is mentally weak. To go to St Kilda because your Daddy is there and be behind Gehrig Kossie and Rievoldt as a key forward would have to be amongst one of the stupidest decisions in football. Then to break his leg is pure bad luck. had he stayed with us he would be kicking bags of goals each week.

Walker looks the goods though, coming from Broken Hill and loving the Crows there is no "go home" factor. He is also a big game player, something not many of our younger guys are. They are all good but seem to lack the ability to step up for the finals, MacKay being an exception. IMO Walker will.

Does anyone have a pic of that hanger from Sunday? Would love it.

Its clear to me that Walker's only got 2 major weaknesses at the moment - one-on-one contests and defensive pressure. The good news is I think both of these can easily be address by a couple serious pre-seasons. This kid could be anything.

This thread made me guiltily chuckle a bit.

haha that was a good thread to have a read of.

Re: Taylor Walker

Go the mighty TR

will be back later this weekend with his vital stats

needless to say that am absolutely wrapped we decided to put this kid on our senior list, has talent to burn and the sooner he got into the AFL system the better

One quick point, I am more than happy to be Walker's watcher but as I pointed out in the prior thread I work weekends, so if there is someone who gets to the SANFL games of the club Taylor get drafted to, I would grudingly pass responsibility to them for the greater good of the AFC big footy community, no doubt there will be a great deal of interest in this kid next year

Cheers, Mickycrow

looks like you passed it onto nearly every crows fan in the country :D

I just wish they hadn't realised...! :D

Dno what you guys think of having an arrogant forward, but Taylor is exactly this.

I mean Buddy, Fev, Lloyd, Dunstall, Brereton etc were all arrogant people.

Well, Taylor is a very arrogant young kid. He said to a guy I know at the weekend who plays for Sturt:

TW: 'Do you know who I am???'
Dude I know from Sturt: 'No mate...'
TW: 'You will soon'

Personally I'm not the kind of guy who goes around saying this sort of thing, but I do believe the pure arrogance is a massive ingredient in most good forwards. I enjoy this in Taylor.

Got to agree here, too often we've recruited nice, decent blokes to be our forwards, these types of players make good defenders, not forwards, this is what I love about Taylor, he knows he's good and to be a really good forward, you really can't have any doubts about you're own ability.

we have ten year contracts don't we? can't we just sign him up for that?

I'm not sure if I believe the story because i've heard of sports players saying that line, but still top effort - too bad he couldn't quite back it up.

Sounds a bit like Dan Cullen

But your right, forwards are different to other players. They need that extra arrogance to be good. You cant take a "normal" footballer and turn them into a forward.

Pretty sure McGregor gave him opponant the ball a few times out of sympathy.

Good to see Tex trash talking.

Tex, Ivan, Symes, Thommo, lets get some more mean into the crows.

In addition to CC's story, which sounds legit, my mates at Norwood seem to rate the guy very highly as an individual. Definitely has an arrogant, or confident streak, but I think that his outstanding football comes before the arrogance, lets his game do the talking first and foremost, if you will, which is a very very good thing. He realised straight away that his job was to kick goals for Norwood and chucked the blinkers on, not letting himself get distracted by the expectations or the media demanding him to be chucked in the AFC forward line prematurely. Hope he stays this way. His response to the media excitement after the EF was also top notch.

Sounds a bit like Dan Cullen

Don't jinx it you bastard! :D

You can see the arrogance in how he plays. Take last week agaisnt the maggies for example. Takes a mark on the 50, players leading inside 50 but he just goes back and slots a very important goal. On Sunday he kicks a goal and the Sturt player is sucked in and gives away another free kick to which Walker gives him a massive ribbing about.

Sign him up for 10 years and pay him extra money outside the salary cap as the AFC forward line coach.
