Taranto looks like he prepares himself very professionally, hardly injured, cracks in after getting plenty of opposition attention.

it looks like smilie mightn't be able to kick for his whole career, so no risk of learning his dump kicks. but in reality from 40m out Taranto would be our most reliable set shot.

That is a fair assessment. TT in front of goals is where he does his best work. still not a good mid though for the modern game

Thanks Kane...
You know he is right about TT as a mid :p. I'll break it down for you Kane style.....:sunglasses:

AS a mid.....
1)too slow for the modern game.
2)very unreliable by foot.
3)not a good play maker.
4)Not good when he has to make that clutch pass or handball.

All of the above its not just me saying it. Take off your rose coloured glasses and watch the game this week.

You want to argue that? Dont think even you can do it....

Good traits.....
1)has a crack and turns up at the contest.
2)is a great set shot at goal.
3)is aggressive at the ball and winning the ball.

So if TT is gonna play mid, the attributes he is bad at, are the ones critical for being a mid in the modern game.

You recognize it , Kane recognizes it , we all recognize it but the great man is oblivious

Oh dear, I've struck a nerve. Keep your panties on ;)

TT out-performs our current mids.
1) Don't believe this. Plenty slower out there. The issue is when we play all of the slow ones together (Prestia, Hopper, Ross). He averages more tackles than Cripps, Oliver, LDU (tried to find similar types of role) so he can get to people.
2) No argument there - made even worse by having Hopper, Ross and Prestia in there who are also poor by foot
3) Not sure what you define playmaker as or how you measure it. If you mean score involvements then he is behind Lalor and that's it.
4) Hard to measure clutch (as in what is clutch and what isn't? Miss a kick then the oppo turn it straight back over - is it then not clutch because we got it back? Nah, just subjective - I'd just look at his disposal efficiency by hand and foot - already agreed with point 2, handball much better than kick but also lots of room for improvement)

I'm not sure you've taken notice of many of my posts but I've advocated for TT to spend more time forward for a couple of reasons. One he has good forward craft (can take a 1-1 mark, is good on the ground, is a very good set shot) and 2 (he's got some valuable experience that our side needs).

Taranto (perhaps sadly) is a better option than Hopper, more reliable than Ross and Dion (who is usually not bad, has been more prone to complete clangers by foot this year, while still solid by hand) and Kmac (who has horrible kicking effenciency for someone playing an outside role).

When Cumming, Smilie, Hotton, Grlj and future guys get more experienced, I've no doubt we'll see a reduction in TT at centre bounce from his 80-90% over most games (one game at 60%). Right now I'm more worried about the mix. Having one of Hopper, Prestia and TT in at centre bounce is unavoidable (while they are all playing) but put other guys in there who can actually hurt and provide quality from our clearance (Lalor, Grlj, MRJ, even Sonsie, Seth, Cumming when he is ready). We looked at Short in there a couple of years ago. It ain't Cotch, Dusty, Edwards, Grigg, prime Dion, Bolton but may help address our spread from stoppage (offensively and defensively).
