F***ing lol at Narni being depth only in 2015.

Uninjured would have been in the starting 18.

Won't be surprised if he gets past his current set back and is recontracted for next year.

Serisouly can someone explain to me how a player go from being entrenched in the side in our best season in a decade to being depth the following year based on others training.

It is the rejection of reality.
Which is perfectly reasonable if you adopt this principle:

Grounding of assessments is an optional extra.

I was taking the piss.

I do see us promoting anyone not completely required at the moment.
Sorry mate, that's the second time in a matter of days where I've failed to pick up sarcasm on here. Yeah It's an interesting decision. I actually think Nahas deserves it as he was entrenched in our best 22 until he got injured and was delisted out of necessity rather than anything he did wrong.

I'd expect Nahas to get a call up at some point in the season. He and Warren are the only likely ones this year, and I think there's far too much depth in Max's position for him to get a game.
I'm still not convinced he needed a game last year. Not saying he is why we lost. Just that it was a Sierakowski-type waste.

So what do the haters have to say about our recruiters taking durdin/ nielson now? Seems like they got it spot on once again.

Tippett comes straight in raring to go and now we have Durdin, Nielson and Tarrant all fighting for Firrito's spot if he dips in form at all.

By the way, has anyone actually seen Tarrant down back yet in training? I have very little faith in him succeeding down back tbh..

People hated taking Durdin and Nielson?

I think Grima getting one more year was considered his last by many and Thompson isn't getting any younger. Sad to see Grima cop another serious injury, especially on your back, one of my favourite players, I don't expect to see him back on an AFL footy field again, will be happily surprised if he does come back though.

I'd love to see him do more media work though.

I hope one of Taz or Tippett really step it up.

Shattering news for Narni. He was really setting himself making the 100-game mark this year, most likely his last year, but that target sadly seems out of reach. Hope he keeps his spirit up through the rehab and at least gets on the park later in the year to get a proper sendoff.

At the time I felt his inclusion indicated a lack of respect to Brisbane after the belting we gave them earlier in the year. We obviously paid the price for it.

Terrible news. I really think the club wants to free up Thompson more by playing him on the third tall (best at cutting off opposition attacks in the league). They couldn't last season because of Grima and Tippett going down. May see Tarrant and Tippett getting the talls. Loogie and Thompson changing between man-marking and loose.

From what Ive heard this surgery is going to fix a lot of the issues that have really hampered his back over the past 3-4 years. It will also significantly help his hamstring tendonitis which can stop him from training throughout the year.

They've done the surgery with more than this year in mind. He is only 29 and at his best he is our first choice CHB, while he has been injury prone I'm sure this year won't be his last.

from what I've heard it was an issue that can be managed. But getting so late in his career it was hampering his preparation and recovery much more than previous years.

Fair enough, but it's disappointing that we decide three or so weeks out that he should have an operation that'll sideline him for 12 weeks.

Maybe we're confident that our other options are up to the task.

6 weeks out from the start of the season, he was having a killer pre-season until he broke down in the new year.

will be back by round 10-11 its not a big issue.

Yes fair call and I think Tippet and Tarrant are decent backups.

Hopefully it isn't and other fill the void, still as you stated was flying until his latest setback.

That's encouraging if its word via the inner sanctum. I may be losing my memory (again) but seemed to get the sense that Narni was expecting this to be his last year. Quite happy to be proven wrong (yet again).

This is a similar argument that was had about Mullett. I'm sure that if it could have been continually managed then it would have been. But things change and the medical staff have the best interest of players with every decision they make.

Been to training just once so far this preseason but was very impressed with Tarrant down back, very athletic, strong and competitive. I'd expect Taz to cement a KPD position in our best 22

That's good to hear. I'd be interested in seeing how he goes with his disposal coming out of the 50, not that it really has to be top notch but would be handy if he has good efficiency.

A lot of people didn't like the fact that we took 3 defenders in the draft.

Narni will make a comeback at some point people, as he pretty much does each year.

When Grima is at his best I think he is clearly best 22.

I don't think he has been at his best for quite a while due to injury setbacks. His lack of rebounding has been noticeable in recent times and he has effectively been a spoiler only.

Plus he is harder to place now as he isn't big enough for the big fwds, plus he is too slow for smaller guys. He really does need an ideal match up to show good form for mine, and he has played some good games for sure.

Considering the players we have coming through, along with the options we already have, I think Grima would have been battling for a spot come the pre-season as they can't all fit in.

He is not a lock for best 22 regardless of whether he was injured in my opinion, which is a good thing as our team has improved since a few years ago.

Actually had career high rebound numbers last year.

Ha. Really?

Well his offensive work doesn't seem as effective and I think his best is past him. His kicking in particular seems especially dodgy at times.

Happy to be proven wrong but with Thommo and Hansen as locks, with Tippett and Taz fighting for another spot along with Spud in almost career best form as a player who can play tall or small, I just feel Grima is not in the comfortable position he once used to be.......and would have been guaranteed a spot considering the state of the current list.

That's encouraging. Hope it fixes him up because I think he's still got something to offer while Nielson and co come up to speed.

So I suppose someone has to ask, why wait 3-4 years?

the usual answer: surgery's a last resort if you have other options. They're not made of meccano.
