Personally I think 95 was better, perhaps if Walker delivers, murh and Gibbs continue to take there game up a notch and Yarran and Lucas turn out to be guns our current crop could match it with that glorious team.

I disagree with all of you.

Ofcourse they can be compared.

We all go on about how good our midfield is, but "comparing" it to our last premiership side shows us that we are nowhere near where we need to be.

There is no contest between our 95' and current forward or backlines, 95 was soooo much better it's rediculous!

This whole adventure has really grounded my 2010 expectations (I had us improving on 13 wins and possibly sneaking into the top 4)

Couldn't have said it better, juddsentant517.

On second thoughts, I wont allow the quality of my posting to be compromised any further.

This is no is spuds, its not even the whole damn salad anymore.

I understand where kreuzering is at. They've done a phenomenal job this off-season in recruiting for the midfield, or so we'd like to believe, right now it's a long way off but I have to say this -- lets just wait and see what happens come the season.

The off-season is so difficult - boring and tedious and there isn't any other sport to watch. I was a huge cricket fan but the sport is dead to me right now - that test series was as boring as boring could be. The grass growing on the field they were on was more fun. I'm excited and can't wait for the season.

Absolute no contest.

Possibly the best inside mid to ever play the game, and certainly the most damaging player by hand in Diesel.

One of the top handful of hard running, goal scoring, massive hurt factor outside mids to have played the game in Braddles.

The man who defined the 'modern athletic footballer' and one of the greatest utiltities to have played the game in Kouta (All Australian in a premiership year).

Hard to beleive but Ratts, Brown and Campo were just 'the support cast', and whilst he mightn't be the prototype for today's rucks Harry was at his dominant best.

Hard to imagine a higher quality better balanced premiership on ball brigade.

just an opinion of guy who watched those carlton midfields demolish many teams in the 90s....

carlton of 2010 has absolutely nothing on that on 95... judd would be the only player in your list that could break into that line up.. as much as i hate your club that was a great bunch players...

just for the record kruezering did you see much of those carlton players in question?

I agree spartan to a certain point.

Gibbs and Murphy probably would have taken Hanna, Rice and Hoggs spots in that team. Different types of player but I think they'd have found a spot for them.

at this point in time i wouldnt swap them.. at the end of the season and with continued natural progression id say no worries... hanna (great bloke), rice and hogg were all pretty proven consistent players ... but like i said im sure at next (2010) seasons end id be in total agreeance with you...

Watched every second of every game (except for the last quarter against St.kilda, Dad wanted to beat the waverley traffic)

Seeing as I voted for 95 and said in two posts that I thought 95 was better what gave your small brain the idea that I may not have seen them play????

I only compared the two out of interest as a lot of us rate our midfield in the top 3 of the competition. The wash up of the poll seems to be that our midfield may not be as good as we alot of us think it is...at the moment.

Dont get depressed there Kruzering.
Dont underestimate how good the 95 side was and how they thrashed the Geelong midfield who were also an awesome unit.
Nothing compares to both those mids today, so dont worry,we'll be ok !

I also think 95 was a far better midfield..

I disagreed that they can't be compared, because our current team hasn't won a premiership.

They can be compared...and at the moment the 95 side is ahead.

Right now, I have to agree. 95 midfield was much better than the 2010 midfield. However, in a few years (once we have won a premiership) our mids will be better than 95's.

Does anyone know roughly how long the main group of mids were together in 95?

well, the fact that you are trying to make comparisons between a midfield that had elite players, was consistently in finals, had feared and revered players to a midfield ,which apart from judd, has only potential, a few of the qualities and none of the achievements to warrant such an assessment...... maybe a better comparison would be that to that of a gun midfield which is in its infancy ala geelong or st.kild 6-7 years ago. most of the players in 95 were seasoned, tried and true players .... my small brain understands logic... does yours? you didnt need to get defensive i because was asking a reasonable question..

Our 1995 midfield is comfortably ahead of where our 2010 midfield will be at, but I think it is an unfair comparison because the '95 midfield was so much better than any of the current midfields in the AFL. As an example, Gary Ablett jun would be the only Geelong midfielder to get a game ahead of any of the '95 midfield, but he would slot in well behind Williams, Bradley & Kouta & be on a par with Ratts. The same could be said for Judd.

In the last decade, only the Lions & Eagles' midfields bear some form of comparison, but neither of those midfields had the depth of Carlton's all-star midfield.

Take the time to watch games from the '95 season & one of the first things you will notice is the hardness of the Carlton midfield. Bodies regularly put on the line, plenty of aggressive tackling & an absolute manic desperation to win the contested ball. You do not see this in the midfields of 2009/10.

Carlton's current midfield will most likely not reach the elite level of our '95 midfield, but they will still be the best midfield in the competition within the next 2-3 years & that will be a great achievement in itself.

You go for Collingwood, hence you have a small brain...it's just science.

Some of us believe we have one of the best midfields atm, I was simply comparing our current one to the last time we had a strong team to see where we sit. I think that is definately fair reason for a poll.

However thank you soo much for your wisdom, it's so great to have people that were around way back in the mid 90s to fill us in on the ancient times.

Easy man, he wasn't hating on you, just asking a question.......
