It’s painfully apparent watching live but he simply has to ****ing play, he’s clearly got some mental demons that that he has to sort that probably stem from the club completely disowning him after he collided with whatshisface but he has to do that in the seniors.

You cannot have Draper who is inherently unpredictable and Caddy who is still learning the trade and his patterns need a fair bit of work as your two key forwards. How the hell are the forwards and mids meant to deliver inside 50 if Draper doesn’t know where he’s leading to or whether he’s going to mark it, spike it forward or fly kick it and Caddy is just going to fly for anything even if it’s not his to fly for?

Wright is a predictable target that leads to high percentage spots, he’s easy to kick to, even if he’s not marking it.

The opposition have worked out that Langford is the most dangerous man and the attention is going there because they don’t need to worry about the first two at all really. Hurting his output as well.

Onus is on Brad and the coaches to support him through this and get him right, not chuck him to the curb. Yet more Scott nonsense, utter ****ing nonsense.
Yep, when playing well he straightens us up and is one of the best set shots in the league. Draper can go forward in bursts and relieve but not the answer IMO. We still need a full time forward.

With Bryan getting better Wright can hone forward craft.

Has had 1 good year out of ten.

Agree draper and caddy but not sure Wright is the answer. Our season is cooked so looking at a few different set ups is fine.

Our problem is we bomb it and want forwards to make a contest, but dont have any ground level threats or crumbers/pressure players to take advantage of that contest. So it's just gets repelled.

Wright couldn't even make a contest the last few weeks he played.

He doesn’t have to have the 50 goal lone hand year. His impact is as much what he does as it is for what he does for everyone else, the knock on effect is a big thing.

You know you are getting 2 and a bit goals a game, he’ll chop out in the ruck and kick straight but he also takes the number 1 key defender week in week out and he doesn’t get outmarked. He may not bring everything down but as long as we give him half a chance he’s at least bringing it to ground.

Really, really important piece, probably the most structurally important player in the front half.

Wright’s omission is probably the first time Scott has walked the talk. People may not like the term, but for a 2M giant, he is bloody soft. When he’s not kicking goals, he is beyond useless.

In his last two AFL games he had a combined 3 kicks, 1 mark and 0 goals. That won’t do.

His set shot is magnificent - that’s not arguable. When he’s kicking goals and in form, he’ll be back in. But he should be made to dominate for a few games at VFL level before that happens.

He needs to walk the talk as well. Enough is enough

I still like him in a second ruck role, even if he ruck work is very average, because he's one of the few who leads up at the footy and provides an option when the defence has noone to kick to.

I'd go with Bryan and Wright next season and trade Draper who has more value, and look to bring in a mature 3rd choice if Goldy retires who is good enough to dominate at VFL level.

Yeah but he can't mark it. I'd sooner trade 2MP than Draper (but certainly not totally against trading Draper).

Delivery to him this season has been poor. We don’t have many others who can take overhead marks. Caddy eventually will be and Jones when he returns forward because he’s no winger

We also kick it on his head at every opportunity. I wanna know if he’s a victim of circumstance with the shit style we play, or does he not work hard enough. Look at our side last night. People torch Caldwell because he turns it over going in side 50. He’s also about the only player that attempts to hit up a leading target

We need to build a style of play that works for 2MP, caddy and Langford. The rest like the smalls need to fit in

Best watch the VFL last week. There where at least 5 times where he got a chance to mark under little pressure and the delivery was fine and he had concrete hands. Yes the delivery inside 50 has been all over the place but he has also dropped a truck load of chances where he has had limited pressure .

This. This is who 2MP is

He’ll create opportunities with his size/reach that you’d expect someone of his accuracy if they took them all would kick 4 goals a game

Then he fumbles and bumbles them and only gets 2 goals a game while not being a reliable pack target. Does it at every level seems like.

Almost makes you bitter about the 2 goals a game (despite the fact that a forward who will get you 40-50 goals in a year is a very productive player)

Looks like 2MP is contracted for 3 more years. So we'll need to work out how we're going to use him with Draper and Bryan, or trade him.
He can play in the VFL. If he finds form all well and good. If he doesn't he can ask for a trade and we can pay some of his coin to see the back of him.

He's still easily the best forward of the three. Like even this year when down on form he still had 19 goals in 14 games. Not great but the calls on this site about him were pretty shit

So who plays out of Wright, Draper and Bryan then? I don't think you can have all 3 in the team.

Depends how the Draper and Bryan things plays out - no way both of them are here next year.

2MP could go elsewhere - or he might have a big off season to be the Luke Jackson 65% forward 35% ruck type so Caddy and Jones have time to gel together as the Key Forwards

One of the rucks for me. I'd go in with:

2x key forwards (Wright/Caddy)
1x Medium (Langford)
2x flankers (Gresham, Perkins)
2x pressure smalls (Guelfi, Kako)

To start. Would love to upgrade Gresham too.

Could not trade him quickly enough. It's the wrong time for players not to be physical, slow and in the forward line.

Caddy, Draper, Langford and Jones in more than enough height forward.

Goodwin would not tolerate Wright but Wright could be very effective at Melbourne. We know he can kick 50 with some supply. Hell he would even likely work out well at Port which lacks a marking target. It's not that Wright is no good but he is no good for Essendon at this moment.
