Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

He is contracted to the end of next year and he will resign. We have too much to gain and we can afford it. All kids have a spell of homesickness. He has a great opportunity here and I doubt he would turn his back on it.

If the rumour is true, which I doubt for a minute, would it explain why we could be/are after Tom Hawkins from Geelong?

I hope we don't lose Sam Reid though, because if we snare Tom Hawkins, a Hawkins/Reid combination would look quite scarey, if Hawkins gets his act together on the field.

But man, I hope the rumours aren't true though.

Replacing Reid with Hawkins would be like replacing a Ferrari with a Reliant Robin.

I expect you meant re-sign.

Resign = quit
Re-sign = extend contract

Really Wolfie...If you're going to reverse a cliché you should watch where you're going

"I doubt for a minute" is NOT the opposite of "I don't doubt for a minute"

The latter has an implied 'even' as in "I don't doubt for even a minute"

"I doubt for a minute" suggests that you only doubted this rumour for a minute.

I remember once he used 'dime a dozen' when trying to convey how rare something was. I tried to correct him on that one too. Maybe we should start up a class or something.

What is this, bush week? There are people that post here, with far worse English than mine, IE: Vonn. :o

Considering Her Vonness does 4U English I suspect her's is quite fine. ;) e're just teasing Wolfie.

There's a whisper on the Carlton board that Reid is keen to come home next season. Swans have been good at holding on to players, so I assume it is just wishful thinking. But it would be a shame for you guys to lose him as he looks like a genuine gun.

Anyone here heard anything about homesickness?

If he was coming to Victoria, he'd clearly name the Pies as his preffered destination.

But this kid is an absolute gun. On draft day I wish we'd taken him, but obviously we took Ball which turned out pretty handy. All the best to him, as a few people know I'll keep watching with great interest as he is the only player in all my teams (not SC + DT, but other fantasy forum games).

I saw an interview with him a few days ago and he was talking about how much he liked it here and how close everyone is at the club.

I'd be more worried about GWS throwing heaps of cash at him (and his brother) next year then him becoming a VISY ambassador at Carlton.

The thing is, he actually is a really a good kick of the football. We saw that in his debut game last year - admittedly only one fairly easy shot on goal, but around the ground he was very good also. I just think it's in his head a bit at the moment. As long as he keeps getting the opportunities, he'll be fine.

4 things needed for Reid.

1. Keep presenting;
2. Keep up the strong hands;
3. Kick through the ball;
4. Get a 23-8 free kick count in your favour.

"Home" for Reid is Bright. So until the Bright Rovers are admitted into the AFL as the 19th team, hard to see homesickness pulling him to Melbourne.

Playing alongside his brother would seem to be the only conceivable reason to make him want to move specifically to Melbourne. (Having money thrown at him could take him to any club.) But for now, and probably the next few years, he wouldn't get a spot in the Pies team so would be a backward step for him.

Well put Liz, until i saw your post i was going to say the same thing. They are a wonderful family and money wouldn't be an issue. I would think after Ben gets his second medal this year,we might be having a crack at him.
