Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

It was just a play on the rich man / injury thing. Wasn't making light of gout, apologies if I've offended, I imagine gout would be terrible

I don't know whether miggs actually does have gout, but I think even if he does, he made that comment with his tongue firmly stuck in his cheek.

Quiet gout boy.

I'll see myself out.
it is actually painful as f--k and as a result cant eat seafood or alot of steak :(

No doubt I am certainly guilty of spur of the moment frustration & hit the "Post Reply" button with too much blood having rushed to my head, instead of chilling out before doing such an idiotic thing. At the end of the day we all love the Swans in our own way. I prefer to not write people off as I've said before. It just feels good if & when they come through.

I just don't like to over complicate things. Worry about what can be done as we stand now.
We have a certain amount of players on our list in 2016. We had the same amount of players in 2015 & will have the same amount in 2017 but the make up is different every year. A percentage of that list will not play senior AFL football in any one year. Some because of injury & others because they aren't quite ready or simply just aren't good enough in our system. So every year we have a portion of players that many (not I) crudely consider list cloggers!
In 2015 Harry Marsh could have been considered such a player. So he was delisted only then to be picked up as a rookie. Lo & behold, we have a problem with our depth defensively so he gets an upgrade & then gets a game & does his job, because he has been taught our system.

Now in 2016, Sam Reid has fallen into that percentage of players that might not play due to injury. Right now, there isn't too much we can do about it other than hopefully rehabilitate his body to a point where he can a) get on the ground & then b)stay injury free while playing the role his coaches ask of him.
There are 4 rounds to go & 4 weeks of finals should we need them to go all the way. Much can happen between now & GF day.
We need every player on our list no matter what their capacity is because even if Reid isn't right to go until Prelim Final, we may need to call on him.

What happens next year is actually irrelevant right now. We are a good club & we would never burn off a player such as Reid if we have a role for him.
Should he wish to be traded in 2017 like others before him, then we would do our best to get the right deal for both parties.
Potential is why we have persevered with him through injury & potential is what will get a trade done should he wish to move on but I don't think that we would get a lot for him which is why I say we just keep him a Swan if he so wishes.

perfectly agreeable points at the end, he is irrelevant now purely because he has no time to get fit and play, but if there is a role going forward the club will know how to utilise them.

As an aside and not aimed at anyone, probably more a general thing IMO for everyone including me, i think we need to get past the idea of someone saying player x should not be in the side, or should be traded etc means you dislike them, wish them ill will, hate sydney

We all love the swans here, we all want to win and by and large dont care who does it. I have said Reid is not best 22, but bugger me, if he comes out and becomes a star i will be happy as a pig in mud, its not a personal thing, its just talking about the side.

So Sam needs surgery. Is anyone else wondering why it took so long to make that call? I am not familiar with the trainer's protocol, but considering that Sam has been in rehab all season, it seems a bit late in the process to suddenly put him under the knife. Only two things make sense. The initial diagnosis was off, or the injury was further aggravated in rehab or by coincidence. Has anyone heard?

Maybe so. There could be several reasons why he has had issues. But still, unless this injury got aggravated somehow, it seems this procedure should have happened weeks or even months ago. If I were down there, it would be tough not to give the training staff a sideways glance on this one. It just seems odd.

Sammy came 9th in POTY last year. More votes than McVeigh, Goodes, Rampe, Grundy, Heeney, Lloyd among others.
The players ahead of him were all of our star midfielders, Tippett, Buddy and Jetta.

Would easily come straight in for XR if he was healthy.

You Bambi loving non-expert on all things football how dare you suggest (1) Reid is any good (2) that he would get a game.

There is a direct link between weakness in the Achilles' tendon and persistent hamstring troubles. it would only have been diagnosed when he repeatedly failed to improve from the hamstring strains. None too sure actually what the weakness is but that is the connection. Hopefully it will be a permanent solution to his injury drama.

That makes no sense

Where did Ted come last year? Bet it was above Aliir? Better bring him back

Also that just means the board loves him and we know that to be true

Pre-season update on Reid

http://sydneyswans.com.au/news/2017-01-16/reidy-to-rumble

Right now Reid’s feeling in career-best shape and has next month’s community series firmly in his sights as a stepping stone towards what’s proven recently as an elusive 99th AFL game.

“The amount of prehab and rehab work I’ve done in the build-up to this pre-season, the number of kilometres I was able to get in the off-season, has surpassed any previous seasons,” Reid said.

“That was the target – get to a stage at the end of the year so I was back to full training and, if the worse was to happen and we had a heap of injuries, I’d be available to play.

“We got to that point and I was able to have a normal off-season, complete all the running, and put myself in good stead for pre-season.

“I take a lot of confidence out of that and I hope that can hold me in good stead right up until the season starts.”

I love how every time someone posts something vaguely positive about Reid, it's automatically dismissed by BF, like a Pavlovian response. I just hope he stays fit!

"Every time" meaning its a common occurence hes coming back from injury. Hence the negative responses "every time"

I didn't say the negative responses weren't justified!

Will be interesting to see how he goes injury free with a full pre-season under his belt. I saw enough end of 2015 to suggest Reid could fulfil his potential. Those comparing him with Jesse White are wrong. He's got far more than White had, far more versatile and his best is better. Needs a good string of games.
