What would your views be on Stevens and maybe 3rd/2nd round pick for Carey?

We won't get rid of Stevens because that defeats he purpose of getting Carey. We gain a forward but then we just lose one - Silly!

Hope we don't trade a midfielder because that is why we need a forward because our midfield gets it down there so many times. So that would kind of also defeat the purpose.

1st round draft pick and another player - not a gun or future gun will do.

Did any of you see last night on the news the ones who are going to have to fight for their position??

There were alot of players who haven't played all year and then some who have played a heap of games.

Don't you think that obviously the ones that don't play very often are going to get traded or axed before the ones which do play??

What are your views.

I know Hayden Skipworth which is on the Crows list and I think he got about 3 games last year and none this year but in the SANFL he gets best player a heap.

I must say though I don't want our team to change at all I think they are great the way they are. I wish no one had to go.

An interesting result on the poll. Clearly we are fairly evenly divided between winning next years flag, staying about where we are at and slipping to the lower part of the eight.

I guess time will tell for sure. I'm looking forward to it. How many weeks to go???

Who satrted the Burton rumour to North??

Its really pi$$ing me off hearing it everywhere on bigfooty :(

He kicked over 50 goals this year, is vital to the Crows future. If Burton goes in the Carey deal, I will be very ****ed off.

Burton is "more accurate kicking" away from being a star.

That's what I reckon. What's the point in drafting a forward and then trading one for him. Sounds stupid.

Burton is no champion. He is an exciting player when on song, but far too inconsistent to be worth of called a champion.

It will be all good next year. We are a vey realistic chance for top 2 if players are firing. I wouldn't trade Handby because he has had a whole year in the SANFL and a solid one. I believe he, Rutten and Schuback will all be ready for AFL next year as it is a very good plan by the AFC to give youngsters a whole year in the SANFL to bulk up, gain some form and confidence etc. It worked wonders this year with Doughty, Bode, John****, Ladhams, McGregor and Crowell. All played 2001 in the SANFL and came straight into AFL and didn't look out of place at all.

If we had one more tall defender and Carey plays well (which he will) I would say we are a very very good thing for the Flag.

P.S. Who voted for Bottom 8.

Ladhams, Mcgregor and Crowell played more than half of 2001 in the AFL.
Bode played only a handful of SANFL games due to constant injury.

Yes but Bodey played 1 and a 1/2 games in a Crows guernsey in 2001, Ladhams lost his spot midway through last season, McGregor has been in and out eevr since hes been at the club, and same goes for Crowell.

I think the point is they all stamped regular spots into the side.

Doughty is the biggest improver, I wanted him delisted last season, how he has proven me wrong :)

Attack: With Carey coming in, will be a huge plus if he can remain injury free for the majority of the season. Mark Stevens will benefit from another pre-season and will become a stronger marking option than he has been this year. Also, with Carey taking the best defender, Stevens may have it a little easier than he did this year. Burton (if he's still in the side) will then take the third best defender and so on. Players like John****, Crowell and maybe Ladhams will be useful at the fall of the ball, with McLeod chipping in for a rest in the forward pocket.

I think Crows attack could prove very productive next year, with luck. The Crows even this year managed to score more overall than all but three or four opposition sides. If any players have to move up-field to get possession, it should be Stevens, Burton & Welsh to do this. At those times when the supply is coming into the Crows forward 50 though, I imagine Carey will get the best defender, Stevens the next best, then perhaps Burton. That could leave Welsh & Fitzgerald playing against the opposition fourth & fifth best defenders, with a Bode or a John(ock or a Ladhams left to shark the crumbs - and IMO that setup would truly stretch any backline in the comp.

Sounds like a forward zone from heaven i can't wait,
let's hope it all works out well [ touch wood ]

The good thing about Wayne Carey being a Crow (Woohoo:D )..is that it buys us 2-3 more years to develop some talls. And Wayne can also help Kenny, Handby etc develop.

And he'll take the best defender which will eventually leave Welsh or Burton with a 4th string defender and can allow them to dominate. If we don't become too Carey-conscious and use our other forwards we will be in for a great year. Stevens will also play on a second string defender and this will allow him not to be scragged and held onto all game if he's playing on a defender with a slighter body.
