Was just wondering how a few of the young players are going.
IVAN MARIC,CHRIS KNIGHTS,JOHN MEESON,any one wanna do a report cheers

Ivan Maric - playing CHF for Port Adelaide Magpies reserves. Was named as the best player last week and many think he will be promoted to the Magpies seniors this week. Doing a reasonable job considering he hasn't played as a CHF before.

Chris Knights - Has been VERY good. Started of in Woodville-West Torrens reserves. Regularly was in their best players. Got promoted to the seniors and made a stunning debut. He picked up 20 off touches and kicked 2 or 3 goals in 2 and a half quarters of footy. Started well the follwing week but copped a knock on the knee and didn't come back on

John Meesen - Got dropped to Norwood reserves last week. He was played mainly as a FF in the senior side and his confidence suffered as he is not a FF type. He is a ruckman. Had a couple of really good games early in the seniors.

Ivan Maric and Chris Knights had a very limited pre-season due to knee tendonitis. I would say both are going OK considering their preparation and circumstances.

Nathan Van Berlo - He played 3 AFL games this year and has played the rest in South Adelaide seniors. Regularly gets into their best players.

Chad Gibson - a KP project played who is fearless and needs to smooth all the rough edges in his game. He has been playing in Norwwod reserves all year and has been played all over the place. Some weeks he is in their best players some he is not. Missed last game through strained claf and some at Norwood think he is not too far away from getting a senior game.

As Stiffy said above.

IMO Van Berlo will be a very good AFL player for many years on what he's shown at this stage of his career. I have a huge opinion of this kid.

Chris Knights is an absolute ball magnet. Reads the play well and crumbs beautifully. Nice size for a youngster as well. Barring injury, he will play AFL this year IMO.

Meesen and Maric are longer term propositions and will need all of this year and probably most of next before we see them at AFL level.

Don't know Macca - a full PS - these guys do not have immature spindly bodies - they may in fact surprise with the rate of improvement, particularly with Stewart and the club emphasis on player development which differs apparently from Ayres.

You could well be right. I was just playing conservative on these 2. :D

Agree regarding NVB and Knights

Meesen could play a couple of games this year. Depends on a few things but I would expect him to get a couple or more games next year.

As far as Gibson and Maric are concerned, I think they are project players and could take a while longer. JR reckons they are a couple of years away.

The term "project player" scares me a bit now. Isn't that what Matthew Smith was described as when he came to the club?

Great assessment there mate.

The only likely one to debut next for the Crows is Knights. The Count should also pack in a few more games, as he's been very solid in the SANFL since his omission. :)

I would leave Meesen in the SANFL till early 2006, and introduce Maric late 2006. Gibson could be anything - has great size and skills but needs to put it together.

I can not predict the future so anything that is said is just a hunch but I get this feeling with the way the side has been selected over the last few weeks that we have seen the last of Nathan van Berlo for this season in the senior side. Unless there is a rush of injuries (please not, and nothing against NVB) he will play out the season at South Adelaide and come next season look to cement a spot in the side starting with the Wizard cup.

That would be very disappointing. As I don't believe we will give the premieship a real shake this year, wouldn't it be better to blood a few of these young guys to give them some experience and therefore incur some short term pain. Are we going to leave it too late to blood these guys as we did with Mattner, Rutten etc...Are we overrating our list again??? If we wan't to give it a shake in 2007 and 2008 some of our young guys have to be given some gametime this year IMHO.

Of course it would better in the long term to blood the kids now and many on this forum have been calling for that to happen all year but the way team selection has gone the kids are not getting a go except for van Berlo who had played 3 games.

I would like to see 3 or 4 new players blooded every year, no matter what position the club is in on the premiership ladder. If 3 or 4 new players are shown they have the opportunities to became a full time member of the side each year we would not get into a position like last season, a team of all older players.

The Count's been named on the emergencies for the last few weeks, and our side will change over the next few weeks (barring this week) due to injury/form.

I'd be very suprised if the Count doesn't get at least 2 more games by the end of the year. Actually, as Springy said it would be pretty disappointing, givne that we need to look to the future.

Yep, I agree.

With our youngsters that play with the Port Adelaide Magpies... is this a danger? Does this organization try and indoctrinate our players against the Crows?

And by the way, is it a bit ridiculous that draftees don't automatically warrant selection in the SANFL seniors team? You would think so if they are the cream of the crop of young talent in the country... why do they play in the Reserves of a second tier competition?

No and no.

Not really, I think they get de-liced on arriving back at West Lakes.

No and No.

So what if they are th "cream if the crop". If they aren't good enough for seniors they should play reserves. Just because they are on the AFL list doesn't give them priviledges over other players who are busting theur guts to play SANFL seniors.

:) Couldn't agree more - what if any player is a showstopper are they going to play them in the reserves? - course not, there not fools ;)
