F Jericho, Burton, Welsh

HF Hentschel, Perrie, Johncock

C Reilly, Riccutio, Thompson

HB Edwards, McGregor, Torney

B Bassett, Rutten, Hart

R Clarke, Goodwin, McLeod

I Biglands, Schuback, Begley, M Stevens/Watts

Its our forward line that worries me. There are some inconsistant injury prone players there.

Its also time for the likes of Perrie and Welsh to show some leadership up front.

I look forward to the next showdown if the Crows are to persist with Burton and Perrie in the key offensive posts. IMO, they have been tried there in the past and failed and I suspect that may still be your achilles heel for a year or two until emerging talent like Watts developes or you find other tall marking alternatives.

Don't disagree with your comments, but you can only play with what you have. Those key offensive posts have been our achilles heel for the past few years now.

I think Hentschel will add a bit next year, and it certainly would look a whole lot different in the unlikely event that Mark Stevens knee were to hold up.

Watts is still at least a year away from being a regular, so more than likely we'll continue to struggle somewhat in the key forward positions.

I think Perrie gave cornes a bath in the last showdown until cornes was moved - Neil should have sent perrie with him make cornes accountable.

Burton for FF or emergency

You're right about Perrie's performance in the last showdown and that's the point I am trying to make - its the only decent game I have seen play against us and I have been at every showdown played.

He doesn't do it regularly enough and I don't think he has any potential to develope further and become a focal point for a top four side. Don't take it the wrong way, I just think that if the Crows aim to be a top four side in 3 years time, I don't think they will get there with Perrie and Burton in the key forward positions as proposed by Jerome (I think).

Welsh M Stevens Bode (R)
Hentschal Perrie Goodwin (RR)
Riley Roo Edwards
Thorney Kenny Johncock
Bassett Rutten Begley

Clarke Thompson McLeod

Schuie, Biglands, S Stevens, Mattner, Burton, Doughty

Stevens has to be played at FF IMO otherwise it's pointless keeping him on the list. He will not last more than 5 games if they play him at CHF.

Johncock - Welsh - Burton
Hentschel - Perrie - Edwards
Reilly - Riccuito - Goodwin
Torney - McGregor - Begley
Basset - Rutten - Hart

Hudson - McLeod - Thompson

Inter: Clarke - Bode - Schuback - Jericho/Doughty/Mattner

With Johncock and Edwards rotating through the middle.

I'd like Schuie to play as a permanent crumber, but I couldn't fit him in the First XVIII. I'm pretty set on the defensive six - I think thats the best unit we have, and should be one of the best in the league.

The problem with that is that Scuey is not a natural crumber. He is a small opportunist but he is not a true crumber ala Matthew Liptak. The closest thing we have to a true crumber is Bode.

Having said that, I agree that Schuey should be played as a HFF but not a permanent one. Schuey plays his best footy when he rotates between HFF and midfield. I think he needs to be given a string of games and played as a HFF who is thrown into the midfield to give a breather to someone. I say he should spend 70% of the time as a HFF and 30% onball. The thing that I couldn't figure out was playing Schuey as a HBF when he never played there. Even more perplexing was the decision to have Schuey on the bench for most of the game when a week before he was superb against Hawks.

I still think Schuey will come good. I remember watching this kid play in his first year at the Westies. He was sensational that day. Rotated through the midfield and HFF and notched up 25 possesions and kicked 3 goals. One of them was from 60 meters out on the run and it went through nearly post high. Not sure who the Westies played but it was at Richmond. I walked away from that game with a belief that the kid has got the good.

I think Schuey needs to be given a fair crack and he will prove to us that he is AFL player. Reminds me a bit of Simon Goodwin with the way he moves and that thumping left foot.

Totally agree with nearly all of that.

When I said he should play as a permanent crumbing, I was thinking that although I'd like to see him get some midfield time next year, our midfield is pretty strong, and it would be to see him just get regular games for a start.

He is similar to Goodwin, but I think he can play as a crumber, running toward goal, Davey-style.

Yes and no. With everyone up and running and in form we can match it with the best of midfields in the competition BUT we need to to think a bit further down the track. As Roo said himself, he only has 2 years left in the midfield and he will then be moved to forward line for another couple of years. We need to start playing the likes of Schuback, Reilly, Thompson and Johncock in the midfield now so by the time Roo, McLeod, Goody and Edwards are unable to carry the load in the middle we have these younger players capable of being the engine room.

We need to start this in 2005. If we start it in 2006 or 2007 then we have left it WAY too late ;)

FF> Welsh Hentschel Bode

HF> Watts M Stevens/Perrie Burton

C> Doughty Ricciuto Goodwin

HB> McLeod McGregor Reilly

FB> Hart Rutten Johncock

Ruck> Clark Edwards Thompson

Interchange> Biglands Bassett Begley/Perrie Torney

Edwards should definately be in your starting midfield. Watts needs to do an apprenticeship alongside M Stevens if he is fit.

Emergencies Bock Hudson Mattner
