Hello all ... was thinking of this years up-coming draft and the never endless debate over Gibbs/Hansen (should we finish up last, or even second last - Dons take Gumby scenario). As dumb and optomistic as it sounds, I think the key to this years draft for us could be the selection of Andrejs Everitt.

As i've posted on another forum, If we did finish last and picked up Gibbs with our first rounder, Id like to see us take Everitt with either pick #17/#19. Should Luenberger be gone.

My reasoning for this is as follows: Everitt has pretty much only just turned 17 and is 193 cm and still growing, allbeit for now, he is fairly skinny, he could grow to be as tall as his brother (around the 200 cm mark) and play as a ruckman or a tall defender (might compensate for missing out on Hansen - as he could be the Hansen of the 2007 draft, tall KP defender).

However, I'm guessing our first priority (pick #17) would go towards picking any guns who have fallen through to this pick (would probably be one of Proud, Jetta, Collard, O'brian), this allows us to claim Everitt with pick #19.

And with our final pick (should we not claim Fabian during the PSD - or even if we do - I dont care :D) would be to get a young developing ruckman such as Renouf.

So in an ideal world, here is how I would like it to pan out for us:

Pick #1 - Gibbs
Pick #17 - Collard/Proud/Jetta/O'brian
Pick #19 - Everitt
Pick #35(?) - Renouf
Pick #52 - ?? Either a trade or try our luck with someone else.

PSD - Deluca/Meeson (if were lucky

Didn't you say a while ago C4 that Hansen was as good as at MC Labour Park next year? As I have said elsewhere, we need backman. Hansen is the obvious choice. Please make it happen.

That was when i was certain Essendon would take Gibbs. Things change.

The reason this thread was made was to try and comfort myself in the event of picking Gibbs (although I wouldnt be too upset :)).

Some questions that may guide your thinking C4......

What is your own top 20 list for this years draft? Do you really see Collard, proud, O'Brien, Everitt, etc...lasting to our second round picks? What about the AA FB Nathan Brown? Would he be good compensation for missing out on Hansen. Would you prefer Hansen/Petterd, or Gibbs/Brown for example? Will N. brown even get taken in the first round? What are the other teams needs and rankings. Do you rate Jarrad Allen as worthy of a second round pick or do you think he is less likely to make an AFL KPP?

Personally i would be happy with either Hansen/Brock or Gibbs/N. Brown, but then again maybe i have all of them in my top 16?!!

Bottom line IMO is come up with your top 20 list and see how you think it might pan out, which clubs might need to go tall, and which mids might slip through to 18, 20....or if Brown/Everitt/Allen are likely to be there if we take Gibbs at 2 for example.

What about Sam Sheldon or Jake Williams as a father/son round 3 pick. Or, are they not in this year's draft ?

I like the picks, but with pick 35, don't pick up a ruckman if we pickup Meesen/Deluca in the PSD. We only need one development ruckman and both of them are only 20.

Not to mention, next year there is 3-4 quality big ruckman in the draft. Im not saying we'll finish in the bottom 3 (Hope not) but we may finish bottom 6, thus giving us a top 6 pick and access to a good Ruckman.

Like the idea of Everitt and Gibbs and O'Brien

when looking at our father-sons, they probably couldnt have come at a worse time with this "super draft" being so good.

Sheldon - can be taken F/S next year

Williams - wont make it (unless Sydney pick him up)

Johnston - Probably Rookie List.

Id like to get a ruckman. Look at the youth in our centre with Murphy, Simpson, Bentick, Walker(?), and all the others. We need a young ruckman to train and keep the centre young for some exciting years to come. Also I'd like to get someone for full back. Thorntons good enough but we need a back up plan.

Agreed 100% :thumbsu:

lets think a year ahead and take the best available at 35/36. Renouf or Tippett if they are the best available on our list, sure, but not for the sake of taking a ruckmen......like John said, next year there is Kreuzer, McEvoy and Bellchambers who are all streaks ahead of those others already.

Everitt / gibbs and O'Brien sounds great if the cards fall that way.

everyone seems to have a fair amount of confidence we will get deluca in PSD. why? port only have lade and brogan. with lad eonly having a couple of years left and brogan isnt too highly rated by port fans they think it'll cost us a lot to get him. is he worth picks? ive seen him play plenty but would any draft day rucks be as good? needs to be decided before draft because we suck at the moment and need rucks bad.

They also have Thurstans and Will Minsons lanky brother who can play ruck.

Fair enough. I'm actually starting to come around to the idea of drafting Gibbs, should we have the first pick, or should the Bombers take Gumbleton.

I believe we still need defenders, but can you imagine the midfield in a couple of years of Gibbs, Murphy, Blackwell, Simpson and Walker. :thumbsu:

thurstans isnt much of a ruck, mostly key pos. deluca is way ahead of minson also. would love to get fabian. maybe we could offer ADL that would be the best move we could make, especially packaged with sporn

Don't think we should take a punt on Everitt.

FWIW, I think we should take

1st round: Hansen

Priority: O'Brien

2nd round: Nathan Brown

3rd round: F/S, hopefully Sam Sheldon

4th round: Gary Moss

5th round: Tim Houlihan.

A tall CHB, a FB and 3 midfielders. Hopefully get a young ruckman through trading, or in the PSD.

This would be an ideal outcome. I would also be looking at Albert Proud, but I suspect he may go before our 2nd pick comes around, and he is no way going to even be in contention for pick number 2.

Positively drooling...now all we need is a ruckman for them to feed off. So...maybe get Deluca on the off chance he's actually good? Just going on Adrian's form atm, and last year...etc.

I hope you're not making our selections this year. :)

I don't think they're too bad. I don't know if i would pick N. Brown as well as Hansen, with Bower, Thornton, Edwards and Hartlett already as tall options down back, i think Hansen alone would be fine, and we could better use an extra ball carrier with that pick. I don't know if i would take a F/S this year going by the things i have read or been told, and chances are a good pick might slip through to the third round. Moss and Houlihan would be good pick ups that late in the draft....maybe add Jacobs to 68 as some redundancy to the ruck stocks.
