The only day matches in the opening round would be played in Geelong (Saturday) and Launceston (Sunday).

...

The Sunday Age's predicted draw for round one 2006 (March 30-April 3)
Thursday night: West Coast v St Kilda at Subiaco Oval
Friday night: Western Bulldogs v Richmond at Telstra Dome
Saturday: Geelong v Brisbane Lions at Skilled StadiumSaturday night: Port Adelaide v Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium
Saturday night: Essendon v Sydney at Telstra Dome
Sunday: Hawthorn v Fremantle at Aurora Stadium
Sunday night: Melbourne v Carlton at Telstra Dome
Monday night: Collingwood v Adelaide at Telstra Dome

First time in a while!

I wouldn't mind getting the Swans at Skilled for a change.

They claim to want an even draw yet 5 of our last 6 regular season games against the Swans have been at the SCG.
We've had a home game against them only once since 2000.

You're right but I've given up hoping for a fair and even draw. A fixture that is built around having Essendon v Collingwood on Anzac Day, 2 Derbies and 2 Showdowns is fatally flawed from the start. Add to that 16 teams and only 22 rounds.

I don't particulary care about fair draws, just want to get a chance to host every team.

There's no excuse for them have 5 of the last 6 Geel/Sydney games in Sydney. It's bollocks.

Won't get any arguments from me there. Stuff like that should be able to even itself out.

We've been to Sydney ever year they've played matches up there, so one would assume 2006 we will venture up there.

I agree, surely it's their turn to come down here.

Looks like we're going to get several home games early in the season which will mean having to get off to a flyer and hanging on in the second half of the season. Could even mean we have several interstate trips in the last 5-6 rounds.

From today's Age:

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said the Cats were also content with the hand dealt to them by the league, considering the impact of the Games.

The Cats will have a disproportionate number of games at Skilled Stadium while the MCG is unavailable. They also have five interstate games rather than the four they had requested. "It's a tough set of fixtures because of the Commonwealth Games, and I don't think there's going to be anyone jumping over the moon about them," Cook said.

The Cats wanted five-day breaks and the frequency of six-day breaks dealt with.

"We asked to make sure there are no five-day breaks, and also minimise consecutive six-day breaks, and they've done that," Cook said.

2006 Draw

anyone got a leak on our draw yet next year, i see collingwoods is out on there forum already justr wondering if anyone has seen or hear anything and if so could they post it here, it seems we have 5 interstate trips per usual.

We are top heavy with games at Skilled at the start of the season.

We will play five games interstate.

That's about all we know at the moment.

We're all excited. We want to know where we'll be travelling to next year.

Its a long wait till the season starts, so any footy news will be welcomed. I guess the trades are the next big issue but for those travelling interstate the sooner we get the fixture the sooner we plan trips. ;)
