2006 'Super' Draft.......

So far the crows looked to have failed in the 2006 'super' draft. And could set us back a little bit in our squads development.
Out of the 5 players picked in the NAB draft, Tippet and McKay look future stars, Sellar who knows and Gill & Campbell failure.
All our rookie players also failure.
Therefore out of the 9 players picked, 2 maybe 3 will be a success. Thats bad considering in last years average draft we already look to have 4-5 outstanding talents.
When you look at the Kangaroos(especially) and Port and a few other clubs, they performed exceptionally well in that draft.

I think Fantasia stuffed 2006 up, thank god we now have Rendell who is able to make competent tough decisions.

quite happy gaining a potential 'a-grade' forward.. our first one for about 10 years.

mckay looks a steal from a 3rd-rounder

and sellar is a work in progress.. and i think he'll make it, he just needs confidence and to play as a go-to forward.. not a 5th option forward.

Have a look at North Melb, out of 10 players picked about 7 are or will be stars.
Same as Port.

It's difficult to reap the cream of a draft when you finish in third place.

Gill and Campbell - picks 64 and 78 respectively - were never destined to be anything more than depth players. (Though I think Gill deserves more opportunities.)

And don't be so quick to write Sellar off. He's a 19YOKPPFFS.

We did'nt really miss anyone 'special' by picking them up (Westoff eh).

Agreed, plus it was James Fantasia, no sense looking in the past and IMO last years draft was exceptional.

that's nice. why don't you go and study the history of the draft and come back to use?

Our first 3 picked up look to be more than decent long term players, Sellar I'll grant is a little iffy, but Kurt Tippet will be an absolute gun, either as a ruckman or a KPF and these blokes don't grow on trees, so instantly I'd call that a win, especially when we picked him up at what #30 or something, Mackay also looks like he will be a gun midfielder. When you draft 2 blokes who, at this stage look dead certainties to be guns and another who has the potential also to be a gun, you don't call it a failure. A failure is when you draft and maybe 1 or 2 turn out to be decent backbone type players and nothing else.

On Campbell and Gill, well the directive from the top was to go for "ready made" players and we went with Gill and Rocket. Considering where they were picked, it is a pretty decent return. Not many players pick that late even play an AFL.

While Sellar's development has been somewhat slow, its still a bit early to write him off. He is still only 19 and trying to learn a new position. Playing in the ruck can't be helping that IMHO but thats for another thread.

I know people love to bag Fantasia and point to his busts but many conviniently overlook some of the ripping picks he has made in his time here. Look at out team running out this sunday and you will find that all the youngsters were pretty much picked by Fantasia when many had question marks on them.

What the derka ferka is going on here?

We have the best KPP in the draft to date, bar none, we have another who I think will play quite a few games for the AFC, then we have David Mackay who looks like being a blue chip mid in the Travis Boak mould.

A phail would be the 2003 draft m8y.

While I'm not heaps confident he'll make it as an AFL footballer, exactly how can you write off Gallman so quickly?

He made it onto the main list. That's a lot better than the majority of rookie selections do.

Gallman played a very good game yesterday. As did McIntyre who should still be on our list.
