The 2007 season is nearing its end with the concussion of Week 17 not far away. Much of the playoffs has been known for some time with some teams now fighting for position and/or a place in the race

Early this year the 2007 playoffs (for the 06 season) sparked some long, heated, and repetitive conversation about the whether Brady was better than Manning... could the Colts beat the Ravens... what happened to the Chargers... and if Manning and the Colts were a championship team, many held the consistent view that they were not and this held true in previous years... others fought for the cause and rained supreme!!

So what will happen this year?! Worst case scenario New England run the table and take the prize... however what I look for is New England to get rolled in the AFC Championship game and a massive dual to be fought between the Jaguars and Cowboys ;) .... okay seriously, its going to involve either the Colts or Patriots. But oh well!

Just quietly... through all the media storms about the Patriots... Cowboys... Packers... Steelers... the defending champs (Colts) have cruised through yet another regular season... 13-2 as it stands... 6 game win streak (2nd best)... built around a feisty secondary... stout running game... decent run defense (at least on last year)... and a handy QB and WR or two... certainly no worse off than they were 12-months ago

compliments of 'churchtimes.co.uk' :D

may I suggest they have gone from the team everyone loves to hate to the team that everyone wants to beat this years team that everyone loves to hate (if your not a bandwagon jumper)

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

If the Pats run into the Colts in the playoffs and they should in the AFC championship game the Colts will win.

So you're really saying the rest of the AFC teams in the play-offs stand NO CHANCE in HELL??

btw.... where were you in the 2005 post-season?? ;)

sounds good to me and the Cowboys could still try and get revenge for the loss next year.:D

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

New England - No comment necessary
Indianapolis - On par with Patriots as far as I'm concerned until proven otherwise

Jacksonville @ Pittsburgh:

Sun 12/16 at Pittsburgh W 29-22

Sorry Woodson, you've just got to let history be history... Pittsburgh are first-round exits this year ;) They are ready for you and you are banged up and less talented to start with

Tennessee @ San Diego

Would be a great replay for the NFL if it works this way

Sun 12/9 San Diego @ Tennessee 23-17

A lot of talk after that game...

----------

regardless would we not all agree Patriots and Colts waiting, rested, and at home and going to smack the crap out of this class of opponent? They only fear each other.

If Pittsburgh & San Diego win it'll be San Diego @ Colts, Pittsburgh @ Patriots.
If Jacksonville & San Diego win... dito, Jags @ Patriots
If Jacksonville & Tennessee win... Jags @ Colts, Titans @ Patriots

... how whacked would that be... 3 teams (of 4) from the same division in the 2nd round of the playoffs!!

this all depends on Tennessee getting up which I am saying they will. If Cleveland advance you may as well stamp San Diego's ticket to Indianapolis.

thats right?... right?! haha

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

Why isnt any1 showing the Chargers any respect, there only spanking the living S*** out of teams lately.

Because they were in a weak division and the only quality team I can remember them beating is the Colts.. which was when Manning threw 6 INT'S and Vinatieri missed a chip shot 29-yard FG which would have virtually won the game for them.

Lets have a look at who you beat:

Bears (7 - 9)
Broncos (twice) (7 - 9)
Raiders (twice) (4 - 12)
Texans (8 - 8)
Colts (13 - 3)
Ravens (5 - 11)
Chiefs (4 - 12)
Titans (10 - 6) - in O/T
Lions (7 - 9)

That's two teams with winning records.

But of course you can only beat who you play right? Well, I guess.. but when you came up against a challenge with teams like the Pats, Packers and Jags you got beaten.

Oh and you have a muppet at QB who has yet to win a playoff game. Also you'll probably have to beat both the Colts and Pats to progress through to the SB. I dont give the Chargers much chance of that, they may even struggle against the Titans.

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

You beat me to it camsmith. My first post back from holidays was going to refute Mizza in almost those exact words. You are correct, Chargers have been average at best, and have huge problems with Rivers at QB. He might fluke a good game in the regular season, but in the post season against good defenses who will study him inside out, he's going to be a huge question mark. And for christ's sake, they got beaten by the Chiefs at home! Even Denver swept KC. As an AFC man I'll be 'rooting' for the Jags although I think it's a pretty much foregone conclusion who's going to win.

Also anyone out there put your hand up if you're pis sed off your team won a pointless Week 17 game that cost yourself a higher spot in the draft.

Damn Cleveland had to have their best season since 1994  Dallas should be picking around the 20th pick...

Meanwhile the Pats will pick 7-8 depending on the coin toss with the Ravens...I'll bet the Pats win the toss too

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

The Jags get shafted again....

They have to play on the road at Pittsburgh (10-6) despite Jacksonville having the superior record (11-5). This also happened in 2005 when their record was 12-4 and had to travel to New England (10-6)

The same applies to the Giants (10-6) who travel to Tampa (9-7)

Just shows the beastiness of the AFC South and NFC BEast...

TBH I don't think it matters that much though because the Jags have already won at Pittsburgh this year, and the Giants had a better road record than home record this season.

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

Playing alot better than we were at the start of the season when we lost to the Jags, Packers and Pats. all of them were away aswell. If we play the Patriots again it will be completly different to last time seeming we have different starters at CB 1 of them being Cromartie that made the Pro Bowl that didnt even play agaisnt the pats last time and also LT is in form something he lacked at the start of the season.

LT's form means bugger all; he's always going to be a gun. Granted, Cromatie is a talented CB, but he's a boom or bust corner, and against quality WR's, my consensus is bust. If SD are going to beat NE, their DL, and LB are going to have to create humungous pressure, and their O is going to have to click like they never have before. Bottom line, if everything goes their way, they MIGHT beat the Patriots. But, when all is said and done, they are simply making up the numbers in my book. I'm no NFL guru, but if I were to pick a QB that is going to lead a side for 10+ years, I'd take the one we've got under centre, so SD better make sure they make good use of their opportunity, because they ain't going to get one in the near future...

What about your QB? As for meeting us again, you have to play and beat that dirty TEN team :p and then Indy in that thunderously noisy dome first.Far easier said than done.Im affraid that QB of your will be your undoing.

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

Could San Diego be this years Indianapolis?
The team that everyone writes-off for their problems, but which gets fixed in the playoffs.

Could they???
I've been on the Redskins-Jaguars Superbowl all year.
But I can see a creaking door where San Diego could stun the AFC.

I don't know gg... if you look back through the years a team always seems to have something that defines them... New England the coaching (which from that grew Brady)... Indianapolis coaching & Mannings accomplishments prior... Pittsburgh was always well rounded and hard-nosed... etc etc

But San Diego really lack an identity for me. Obviously still have a raw QB who struggles to find the receivers which can come back to haunt you this time of year... they are very up and down... coaching staff still raises questions for me. I honestly can't see them causing much of a stir.

Did you feel that way last year end of week 17 about Indianapolis?
Like, they had some big question marks that would write them off?
I know I did and look how wrong I was.
Personally, I dont THINK San Diego will do it, but I do believe they can due to LT and the uniformity of the whole team underneath him - D and O.
I think the Jags can do it, Colts, Pats - the stand out.
Steelers and Titans seem much weaker, but Chargers somehow, to me, seem to above Steelers/Titans and potentially right there with Jags/Colts.

I wonder if you have any interesting stats about this years playoff teams in your assessments of how the playoffs will go???

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

if the pats do not win after this season, they will be known as the biggest chokers ever

TBH, i hope they do choke, i want Miami to be remember as the only team to win ever match:P

I don't get how you can label a team chokers if they don't win the superbowl after going 16-0?

Those results count for nothing in the playoffs. Nil.

So how exactly does one choke when they have to win 3 more games, the same as many other teams. And the game starts at 0-0 giving every team the same chance of winning.

If Dallas don't win does that mean they are chokers for being the number 1 seed and then not winning it all from the NFC?

concidering they have done just that, gone 16-0. If they dont win the superbowl, it is virtually an anti climax to a greta season - chokers!

Re: NFL Playoffs 2008

There's no question that New England not winning the Superbowl would be the biggest choke of all time.
What did the 72 Dolphins do? Go 13-0 regular season and 3-0 post-season.
There have been many teams who went 15-1 or 14-2 but failed in the playoffs and therefore are considered chokers.
If Dallas and Green Bay dont win, it's a choke, but it's greatly lessened by the fact that New England went 16-0, so the burden rests on their shoulders more than any team.

I firmly believe the Patriots wont win the Superbowl or maybe even not make it.
If you look back at their last, I dunno, 6 or so games, their performances have been way down from their early season shot-out-of-the-gate form.
They've fortuitously managed to fall over the line thru a number of games in this period.
Brady and Moss have been statistically way down compared to the early season.

Ie, they've come back to the pack a lot more.
Teams like Giants and Ravens and Eagles all showed they can level the playing field.
Teams like the Colts, Chargers (when on song) and Jaguars, even the Titans, have the personnel, the coaching, and the toughness to threaten New England's post-season.
