Excellent draft for us Patty, Walker, Otten then built on it in 2008 Davis, Sloane, Henderson.

Brad Ebert over Cale Hooker... wow

It'd be closer than you think.

At the time though, Hooker wasn't even in the conversation at the pointy end of the draft - speculative 3rd rounder that came good.

The actual conversation at the time was Adelaide over looking Ebert for Dangerfield.

By the end of the year its likely WCE won't have a single player from this draft. Thats piss poor from our recruiters. At least we got Josh Kennedy through.

A 50 goal a game (and #2 or in assists) power forward is worth more than a defender.

Strange, I swear Walker only averaged about 40 goals a game. GOAT :drunk:

Going with our lesser option of a mere 40 goals a game and assuming that that team wins the GF ... 25 games * 40 goals = only 1000 goals for the year. Apart from getting a mention in the 'AFL records that will never be broken' thread would we have to rename 'the Coleman' to 'the Walker'? I imagine he would be very hot property if he was coming off contract at the end of that season!

Matthew Kreuzer's re-emergence in the past month as one of the league's best ruckmen has shown why the Blues coveted him with their priority pick in the 2007 national draft.

Kreuzer had been a standout that year with the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup. Indeed, he twice was selected in the TAC Cup teams of the year as a junior.

As reported by Fairfax Media on Sunday, Kreuzer has flourished in all key statistical areas in recent times, and was again one of the best afield in the stunning win over Greater Western Sydney on Sunday. He was awarded a combined eight votes by senior coaches Brendon Bolton and Leon Cameron, one behind best afield Sam Docherty, in the AFL Coaches Association award.

"I've had some OK years in the past but this has probably been one of my most consistent years," Kreuzer said.

That is true but in a 2007 draft that was loaded with talent, the 150-game veteran would struggle, retrospectively, to be chosen in the top 10.

The 2007 draft had Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin at No.2, Lachie Henderson at No.8, Patrick Dangerfield at No.10, Cyril Rioli at No.12, Brad Ebert at No.13, the now flourishing Robbie Tarrant at No.15, and Harry Taylor, Alex Rance and Callan Ward just inside the top 20. St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven was at No.42 and Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker at No.75 as a NSW scholarship holder.

What a stupid article. Kreuzer has played 1 month of good footy in 10 bloody years and they want to discuss where he stands? I'll tell you where he stands. At present he is an absolute flop.

Christ, the amount of money Carlton has sunk into the bloke and what they've gotten back to date is outrageous. Needs to put together a few consistent seasons and they sure as shit could have done with a better #1 pick who was on the park more the last 10 years

1-Dangerfield - fairly easy pick
2-Rioli - 4 time premiership player, broke into flag squad year 1.
3-Taylor - 2 time premiership defender with AA's under his belt.
4-Rance - Top 3 defender in the comp for the last 3 years. Career best the last 2.
5-Ward - Hard nosed leader who has been consistently good since his early years
6-Hooker - AA backman, turned quality FF. Slow burn early, but has been a good solid player for most his career
7-Cotchin - Classy mid, though has the colours lowered in pressure games, particularly finals.
8-Mumford - Consistently strong ruckman who has played #1 in some strong teams.
9-Walker - All rounder as a CHF and a great leader. Can go missing though.
10-S.Martin - Quality all rounder ruck who can play as an extra mid.

Is this Cale Hooker thing some sort of inside joke that I'm not getting?

Cotchin very underrated on here, mostly because of one bad final. Remember he is a Brownlow medal winning captain. Very easily top 5 in this draft, and much better than Rioli

He was terrific for one year and (in terms of midfielders) average for most of the others. His leadership has been questioned more than and other captain i can remember!

Rioli is the second best small forward behind Betts.

Cotchin isn't close to the best midfielder in the league. So how's he much better?

Only on bigfooty would Cyril Rioli be considered a better footballer than Cotchin.

Rioli has been great, but please. Rioli would not even make the top 5 of this draft due to his inability to grow into a midfielder.

Very one dimensional footballer

Completely delusional.

1. Rance
2. Dangerfield
3. Cotchin
4. Harry Taylor
5. Taylor Walker

Tigers took 2 of the top 3 players in one of the strongest drafts of all time and still haven't won a final for 10 bazillion years. The rest of your list must be really s%$#. ;)
