2008 New Years Resolution

Yes I know it's a bit early for this but as far as I'm concerned 2007 is over and I'm looking to 2008 now.

I honestly think it's time we let go of the past and stopped worrying about the other team in WA. They are not big brother anymore. We've proven that we are big enough and ugly enough to smash them when we need to.

It's time to stop trying to be the big fish in a pond and go out and be the big fish of the ocean.

Therefore;

1. I vow not to give a toss about West Coast until Derby week.
2. I vow not to care about the off-field carryings on of their players at all.
3. I vow to focus my attention on Freo and their abilities to play and win AFL.
4. I vow to regard ALL teams as opponents that must be beaten in order to win the flag.

Anyone care to join me?

As long as the 'work place' exists, it's basically impossible to expect harmony between the clubs.

But I completely agree with you, I always felt WA should come first, that Us vs Them State of Origin attitude....... I felt that up until this recent Derby and seeing the way the West Coast fans behaved made me quite bitter about the situation. My attitude towards this club is that we shuold be the new wave the new generation, humble in defeat, tolerant of our neighbours and collected enough to understand it's just a sport.

I went to the West Coast match last night (free tickets I swear) and just looking around at the West Coast and Collingwood fans there, I wanted nothing of their antagonistic attitude.

I just want Fremantle, I want Jeff to tuck me in at night with his snug snaps from the pocket.

I don't give a toss about the slime. There just another team.... IBut I enjoy the rivalry, and they are the team that gives me most satisfaction when we defeat them.
I don't understand this state first crap. I will support a state team in SOO., and only SOO in reards to AFL.
This is a club based competition people!!!! Not a state based competition. If you feel that yuou need to cheers for the slime then you better have a look in the mirror and admit to yorself your a FREAGLE....

Agree with this NiGHTFuRY - how can it be a state based thing when our best player is a South Australian and their best is a Victorian, not to mention the numerous others on both sides who don't come from WA? It's got nothing to do with what state you are from, it's all about the team you support.

I don't care about the evils, I don't care about the other 14 teams - I just want to see Freo, as a team, play to their potential next year - if they do that, I'll be happy.

Any freo supporter who says they would support the eagles because they are a WA team remember...when a lover of the blue and yellow has had a go at you in the past the most likely thing that they've said to you will have been,

"Well how many premierships have YOU won?!?!?!".

Oh don't get me wrong...rivalries will always be there. Up till now though the WC rivalry seems to get in the way of everything else for a lot of people and I suspect the players. There's a whole thread here on the Freo pages where everyone is collectively gloating about the WC loss to Collingwood ffs.

I'd just like to see the rivalry put on the backburner for a while and get a decent trophy in the cupboard so Freo can hold it's head high.

That's not going to happen until we start expecting more from the team than one or two derby wins a year.

I haven't seen any threads, or even posts, by supporters on this board stating they would be happy with two wins for a season. You are just using a Weagle put-down as a stereotype to put down all Freo supporters.

I'm not saying anyone would be happy with two wins a season. What I'm saying is that Freo fans need to get over the obsession and put focus on winning the whole darm shooting match not just playing a game of oneupmanship with the WC.

You don't think that Freo fans in general aren't a little too fixated on the WC? It's reflected in forums like this, the media and conversations in general. It's crazy.

I like to see Freo beat them but I'd rather the team and fans put more stock in the GF. That doesn't seem to be have been the case the last few years.

I think the obsession is probably related to the underperforming of Freo. We have to rag on about WC to deflect attention. I'm over it. I want to brag about real success for once.
